Before the arrival of Nicki Minaj, Lady GaGa, Rihanna made up the line up of today’s Pop It Girls, a decade ago saw Beyonce (the soloist) enter territory owned by Jennifer Lopez, Ashanti….and Rhode Island native Blu Cantrell.
While her Mathew Knowles backed ascent saw her outperform and outpace the trio, Beyonce may remember a time when Blu stood as her closest competitor, by way of similar aesthetics and a joint collaborator in Sean Paul.
This week, in what will no doubt take many back to the point in time, Blu has made a surprising return to the charts with her single ‘Breathe’.
All the details below…
In the last week, ‘Breathe‘ finds itself placed at #7 on the UK’s R&B tally, a decade after peaking at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Helped in part by plays afforded to it by the UK’s Choice FM, the Sean Paul backed single sold enough units in the last week to re-enter the nation’s Official Charts at #83. This, a little mind blowing considering her decade long hiatus from the industry.
A hiatus, that now seems to be coming to an end with the release of new album and a new single which she teased on Twitter back in January.
Hey guys sorry i’ve been away…taking care of a bunch of things. Im getting my single ready and should be dropping it very very soon 🙂
