In what may come as a surprise to ‘Formal Invite’ star Ray J Norwood, his controversial new single ‘I Hit It First’ has flown to unexpected heights after hitting the internet in the earlier part of last week.
For, while initially billed a buzz track for what fans had hoped is a forthcoming album from the singer, the song has proved that the singer’s British audience is anything but dead and- in all fact- is very alive.
Commercial surprises below…
Upon being published two hours ago, this week’s Official Charts have seen Ray nab his first Top 40 in the nation since 2005’s ‘One Wish‘, when ‘I Hit It’ found its way to #39 on the competitive Urban chart.
Outselling Lil Wayne’s ‘Love Me’, A$AP Rocky’s ‘Wild For Night’ and Tyga‘s ‘Dope’, the fiery single-reportedly aimed at Reality TV Tsarina Kim Kardashian- impacted the charts without enough units to have almost snatched the #38 spot from J.Cole‘s ‘Power Trip’.
‘First’s Urban arrival stands as Ray’s first British chart entry this decade, and comes after six years after the release of his last studio album ‘All I Feel’, which peaked at #1 on the US R&B tally and birthed the Yung Berg assisted ‘Sexy Can I’.
