But seriously, Cuba is a racist communist dictatorship. Cuba is racist on a scale of the United States several decades ago. Several black protesters of the Castro regime were imprisoned for exercising their (non-existent in Cuba) right to free speech. Yes, the Castro brothers are, in fact, racist.
The tourist industry is run by the government to finance Cuba’s communist economy, so the big dollars spent by Jay-Z and Beyonce were converted to whatever currency is used in Cuba and then disbursed to whomever the government decides should get them.
In Cuba, the government commands better than 90% of the economy, so most of the citizens (except those high up in the Castro government) are poor and with no choice to “come up” like we aim to in the United States.
Jay-Z and Beyonce going to Cuba, and giving shine to a racist communist oppresive regime, was not a good move.
