Cypress Hill Star Praises Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky & Drake

Hip Hop legend DJ Muggs (of Cypress Hill) has praised the genre’s latest contributors this week, praising the likes of Drake, Kendrick Lamar & A$AP Rocky in an interview to push his new album ‘Bass For Your Face‘.

His words below…

Speaking to Kanya King‘s MOBO Awards last week, Muggs said of Hip Hop’s current state:

“Everything that drew me to Hip Hop has died, it’s all about getting my money and that’s it- there’s nothing in it. It got to a place in the late 90s when everyone sounded the same and it got real redundant but now the underground feeling and the groups are coming back. I’m talking about Young Money, Maybach, GOOD Music. They’re new cats being different from each other but co-existing, there’s a variety.”

“It’s great to see Kendrick, A$AP, Drake and the Maybach guys doing their own thing but having a mutual pride and respect for the art. We need the balance of the Pop and the underground, because for us- it was us and the Beastie Boys on the underground and Will Smith on the Pop side of things, but you need that- you need those variations. I feel like if you look hard enough there’s some good music out there- some really talented amazing kids making quality music”.

Muggs’ new album ‘Bass For Your Face’ is out now!
