John Legend & Nicki Minaj Continue British Chart Ascent / Elijah Blake Lands Streaming Smash With ‘XOX’

Published: Sunday 19th May 2013 by David

It’s that time of the week again!

Half an hour after this week’s UK Charts were publicised, TGJ rounds up a number of the week’s highest rising releases in the nation- which now sees Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams top the overall tally with their Dance hit ‘Get Lucky’.

Meet us below!

Before we head over to the UK, fans of ‘Everything’ vocalist Elijah Blake have placed him on the fast track to streaming glory this week, following the release of his debut music video ‘XOX‘.

With females aged between 13 and 17 making up the bulk of the video’s YouTube audience, combined hits of 166,471 views in four days make it the ‘fasted viewed’ clip from an R&B newbie this week, surpassing the 50,000 mark hours after being uploaded to video sharing site.

As it stands, the entertainer’s hit make his chances of impacting the Billboard Hot 100 in the coming weeks all the more likelier, thanks to new chart rules put in place by the company which sees streams count towards chart positions.

Now available to purchase on iTunes, the song also boasts 163, 840 individual hits on VEVO– accumulated as the performer continues work on Kylie Minogue’s 12th studio album but after he penned the cut ‘DUI’ for ‘Body Party’ singer Ciara, set to feature on her self titled new album.

Over in the UK, John Legend‘s 2005’s ‘Ordinary People’ occupies the #1 spot on the iTunes R&B tally- while its supporting album ‘Get Lifted’ rose 77 spots on the Official Urban Chart to hit the #19 spot…nine years after its December 28th 2004 birthday.

Laying a healthy foundation for his forthcoming album ‘Love In The Future‘, the continued interest in the Grammy’s winner work came after his last solo album ‘Evolver’ was certified Gold in the US, surpassing sales of half a million units- peaking at #4 on the Billboard 200.

Meanwhile, Rap Royal Nicki Minaj saw her latest album ‘Pink Friday:Roman Reloaded‘ extend its lead as the longest charting Urban release in the market today, spending its 59th week in the Top 30.

This, as her Hip Hop love song ‘High School’ sits pretty at #27. Next week, when ‘Reloaded’ spends its 60th week in the Top 40, Minaj will become the first Rapper (male or female) to achieve this feat, kicking pink dust in the faces of every other release to hit the nation’s Urban tally.

..and that isn’t all!

Mariah Carey and Miguel should be pleased to learn that their collaborative hit ‘Beautiful’ rose five spots up the chart in the last week, pushing it into the Top 5 via the #4 spot.

Holding the #27 position of the Official chart, the song’s speedy ascent to the top of many a chart has seen Mariah score her biggest hit in the country since 2009’s ‘I Want To Know What Love Is’ which peaked at #19. 21 spots above ‘Beautiful’ comes Wretch 32‘s Shakka assisted ‘Blackout’ which holds court at #6 while Beyonce‘s ‘Love On Top‘ spends its 71st week on the R&B chart at #31.

Congratulations to all!
