Hardship.
It’s a word Fantasia is well versed in. For, the last few years have brought with them headlines that threatened her career.
However, today the American Idol alum has much to smile about following the impressive debut of her fourth studio album ‘Side Effects Of You’.
The ‘Lose To Win’ led set has been propped by a number of high-profile promotional stops, including Idol, Good Morning America, and The View; stops that have helped the LP make a strong debut on this week’s Billboard 200.
Find out how the Harmony helmed album fared after the jump…
According to Billboard, ‘Side Effects Of You’ officially opened at #2 on the Billboard 200 with sales of 91,000.
The numbers are interesting in that they represent a certain duality. On the one hand, they are the 28-year-old’s smallest first week figures (2010’s ‘Back To Me’ previously held that title after it’s 117,000 opening). However, more importantly, the LP is one of R&B’s best opening week performers in almost a year. What’s more, given the continued decline in record sales, the dip from the last project becomes almost non-existent when put into context. Indeed, some could argue her numbers today actually indicate stronger support this go round — given that sales are down for (almost) everyone.
In any case, with the album’s material being some of Ms. Barrino’s strongest yet, we hope it’s afforded to the chance to max out its potential. It’s a project that could cover much mileage. Here’s hoping it does!
