Mariah Carey‘s hotly anticipated new single ‘#Beautiful’ was unwrapped moments ago.
The official lead single from the diva’s fourteenth studio album, the mid-tempo features R&B crooner Miguel.
With the red carpet treatment being rolled out for the cut (see: Clear Channel radio deal and huge TV promotion), does the song itself deserve it? You decide after the jump…

Hmmmmm torn. I do like this song .. Good production and Miguel was a smart move. Vocals speak for themselves obviously.
But I can’t help feel a bit surprised by this being a single choice .. Much less a LEAD single choice.
Nevertheless, I am so so so so glad that MC has taken this route musically. So much more suitable for her and much easier to respect her as a current artist when she isn’t trying to force a young hip hop sound.

As a long, Long, LONG suffering Mariah fan from yesteryear, to me this is just the continuation of Triumphant-Almost Home-Beautiful. Triumphant was dated straight out of 2004 with Mimi featured on her own song. Then Almost Home was autotuned for life and sounded like the B-side of “Diamonds.” Now we have this new song that reaches HARD to sound like it’s already a classic but it’s a deadpan ass snooze of a song that just sits there and goes nowhere and Mariah STILL sounds featured. Why is Miguel’s verse first? WHY? I’m over it. The song is missing SEVERAL things and just goes on and on and ends with me thinking ‘that’s it.’ Mariah better come better than this. Mariah doesn’t know what her sound is anymore. Triumphant was 2005, Almost Home was 2011, and now this is 197whatever. Sigh. WHAT. ever with this song I’m already over it. It’s not a hit. I do like this and I’m pretty sure it will creep into the subconscious like a lot of Mariah’s well-received work does. What I do know is that this will appeal to the older generation who still buy physical recordings, as it is reminiscent of a more mature 70’s-esque era of soul. This washes over the ear rather than assaults it, which is a welcome break in itself. I agree that she does sound like a feature on her own song, hence it should really say ‘& Miguel’ rather than ‘Ft. Miguel’ but their voices really do complement each other and I think she delivers (that run at 2:52 sweet Jheeez!). IMhO it just needs a Mariah only breakdown a la ‘JoyRide’ at the mid-point to really push it into CLASSIC-territory.

I LIKE IT, NOT AS A FIRST SINGLE BUT I DEFINITELY LIKE THE SONG. I ONLY WISH MARIAH COULD HAVE ANG MORE THATS ALL. THE SONG HAS THIS REALLY NICE FEEL GOOD VIBE. I CAN PICTURE SOMEONE DRIVING IN THEIR CAR DURING SUMMER(ROOF DOWN); WITH THE SONG ON THE STEREO’S BLASTING AS THEY’RE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AS THE SUN SETS. THATS JUST HOW I IMAGINED IT LMAO. BUT ANYWAYS THESE TWO HAVE GREAT CHEMISTRY.

I wish you would stop saying that this song sounds like every other R&B song out right now. I listen to the urban stations EVERYDAY and I’ve yet to hear anything like this. It has more of a pop/funk/indie/country vibe to it. The “in” sound at urban is Mike WiLL made it (body party, Pour It Up & kisses down low).
