While it’s her voice that sees her score the most acclaim, it’s Mariah Carey‘s ability to pen and produce timeless material that will see forever hailed as one of the greatest musicians to ever grace Pop music.
The above point was proved in 2005, when she released one her strongest LPs to date- ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’– 15 years after the release of her self titled debut album.
Fortunately for her, in celebrating her knack for hit making, sales of the aforementioned ‘Mimi’ continue rise this month by way of the hype surrounding her new single ‘Beautiful’.
Good news below…
This week, sales of the Jermaine Dupri fuelled album reached sales of 5,982,905- placing it less than 20,000 units away from reaching the 6 million sold mark.
A feat, that sees the album outsell the entire discographies of artists she now finds herself competing with on today’s charts.
Indeed, while it already been certified 6x Platinum for shipments in the US- the album is now 4 million units away from dwarfing sales scored from all seven Rihanna albums, which total at 9.8 million.
When its global sales are thrown into the mix, ‘Mimi’ can boast of 12 million sold- earning the soprano 10 Grammy nominations, and two #1 singles with Dupri’s ‘We Belong Together’ and the Bryan-Michael Cox driven ‘Don’t Forget About Us’.
In other chart news, Beyonce‘s ‘Dangerously In Love‘ has now shifted 4,881,762 copies in the US since June 22nd 2003 with a further 7 million units worldwide.
Meanwhile, Pink’s 2001 effort ‘Missundaztood‘ holds court with 5,599,711 in her domestic market while Rihanna‘s debut album ‘Music Of The Sun’ currently sits at 607,000 units sold since August 12th 2005- earning it a Gold certification for sales and shipments of 500,000 units!
Elsewhere, after selling 1 million units in its first month of release, Nicki Minaj‘s 2010 debut ‘Pink Friday‘ now boasts global sales of 3.8 million, helped in part by the Platinum single ‘Moment 4 Life‘, the 4x Platinum cut ‘Super Bass’ , and the Rap #1 ‘Your Love‘, which surpassed sales of 1 million back in 2010.
