Two years later than it was supposed to, Ashanti‘s serially delayed ‘Braveheart’ album is apparently set to hit stores on July 30th.
And while the project’s trajectory has taught us to only believe its “release date” once it’s actually sitting on shelves, the singer herself seems to be convinced and has hit the promo trail (again) in support of the set.
The 32-year-old’s latest stop was HOT 97 radio, where she waxed honest on the project, her present-day relationship with former INC comrade Ja Rule, and her on-going role in Lifetime series ‘Army Wives’. One area Ms. Douglas wasn’t too keen to explore was her much-talked about relationship with Nelly. Hosts Ebro and K. Foxx would have none of the media-trained PC, though, and were persistent. Though the Nelly segment was all sorts of awkward, we feel Ebro and K. Foxx stumbled on a fairly potent fact: in her current predicament, Ashanti’s career would actually be helped by her opening up about topics the public clearly want to know about.
Like, we commend her for feeling that her material will suffice, yet when so few people are buying into it (literally), the only real solution is to give the people what they want — even if that means a sanitized version of what really went down. This approach hasn’t just worked for others in the past, it’s actually working presently for a number of fellow R&B females. Put simply, she should share…something, anything. Because, at this point, a giggle and saying “bananas” is not doing the trick.
In any case, because we actually recognise the strides Ashanti has made vocally and artistically (most of which ironically took place after her commercial decline), we still have a relative soft spot for her. As such, click here to buy her latest single ‘Never Should Have’. Perhaps if things pick up, she’ll actually have a sound foundation to right the wrongs of this project with the next. Because, as it is….sigh.
