As if her ‘Braveheart’ album wasn’t already a multi-page manual on how not to release an LP independently, the singer added a fresh chapter today after announcing yet another pushback.
She took to Instagram moments ago to say…
Hey y’all! So Braveheart is NOT coming out today we have clearances & legalities to take of… It costs to be the boss!!! This CEO sh#t is Not A Game! Lol looking like September {Source}
All this talk of “being a boss”. With all due respect, she needs to have an arena of seats with that mess.
Why? Because an actual boss would not announce another pushback the day of release. Like, she’s clearly known for some time now that the project wasn’t hitting stores today. Heck, we knew. Even a short message yesterday would have sufficed.
At this point, the whole project sits bang in the middle of “LOL” and “self-sabotage”. A shame as, unlike many, we actually appreciate the artistic strides Ashanti has made in recent years, as well as the fact that she still looks the Pop star part. However, it’s as clear as Cassie’s lack of talent that her business acumen is non-existent.
Can a major label please sign her already and put us all (her, most especially) out her misery. Because, as of now, it’s as if she’s building the cross her career will be nailed to.

You know there’s a difference from Pop and R&B right? And Gaga is the ultimate term of cry for attention and Katy can’t perform nor sing LIVE to save her life. Plus they’re still new, only on their 3rd albums, let’s see where they’ll be in another 5 years, cause Gaga can’t get a hit out side of EDM. I recall Fergie, Nelly and Gwen killing it in 06, when the sound changed (like it does every 5 years) they vanished. Ci may not sell well, but her album is the best of this year.

I think Ciara is clueless, she only promoted her album for a week. The thing Brandy, Keyshia and Fantasia has done right is them creating other options for themselves. Brandy has acting, Keyshia has the reality thing and Fantasia can do broadway. Ciara needs to get some endorsements or create her own s***. It about having back up if you main thing doesn’t work out.

Babies have been born and are now potty training in the time it’s taken this flapjack album to see the light of day. “This CEO sh#t is Not A Game!” is just code for ‘I don’t have enough money to put this album out the way I want to.’ I don’t hate Ashanti and wouldn’t mind seeing her have a comeback, and as much as I’d like to laud her for not allowing herself to be bogged down by an insulting 360 deal from a major label, she may as well take one and hope that her attorney can negotiate an out clause. She’s proven that she isn’t competent enough to handle being an indie artist.

Good. That whole “Braveheart” concept and artwork is wack to begin with. She should take this as an omen that the album, as she’s set it up, isn’t working and completely redo it.

Ashanti has all the hustle and initiative, but she lacks the instincts to know a hit when she hears it. I haven’t heard any strong material out of her since she’s been doing the independent thing. The songs I’ve heard have been so-so at best.
She needs a really strong online buzz single, something that makes you want to hear it again AND recommend it to others as worth checking out. She needs to stop putting out Braveheart release dates for the time being and focus on coming up with a song good and catchy enough to build some momentum for her career.

Its no biggie really. Its better to look a fool than a broke fool, because who was really going to run out and buy the album today anyway with such little promo of both the album and the last single?
Ashanti’s problem is that she’s trying to find a hit first so she was better just releasing songs to the radio to see how they do, then make a video if the song is successful and create the albums sound around that, but at the moment due to the singles she’s released the album would’ve sounded a mess! At this point she is better taking a leaf out of Ciara’s book and scrapping the last few songs and starting again, renaming the album to disassociate from the months of mess and finding a sound, and either pop or urban single and take it all a bit seriously.
