Robin Thicke Makes History Again With ‘Blurred Lines’ As Song Notches 9th Week At #1

It just keeps getting better for ‘Magic’ maestro Robin Thicke.

Yes, after news that the Grammy-winning crooner earned his first #1 album and best first-week sales ever with his latest ‘Blurred Lines’, it appears its lead single/title track continues to dominate the singles charts as well.

Indeed, the T.I. and Pharrell-assisted track has not only notched its 9th week atop the Billboard Hot 100, but has now made history by breaking a record set by pop diva Mariah Carey in 2005…

Via Billboard:

“‘Lines’ leads Radio Songs for a fifth week, and surges 6% to 219.8 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS, a new record for the chart which launched in December 1990. That sum ends the seven-year audience rule of Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” which peaked with 212.2 million impressions on the chart dated July 9, 2005.

‘Lines’ [also] sets the record for most weeks with more than 400,000 downloads sold. The song also surpassed that sum in three successive chart frames (July 6-20), with a high of 424,000 in the first of those weeks. “

‘Lines’ has landed Thicke in the #2 spot of the ‘best-selling songs of 2013’ tally, second only to Macklemore‘s ‘Thrift Shop’.  At the rate it is going, however, it may very well be #1.  With highly anticipated new offerings coming by way of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce, the year’s 4th quarter is shaping up to be quite the spectacle.
