And the sales are in!
That’s right, after a week of intense anticipation, the first week numbers for K.Michelle’s ‘Rebellious Soul’ have been published by Hits Daily Double.
So, just how many units did she shift?
Prepare to be surprised below…
First Week Figure: 68,205 units sold.
Billboard 200 position: #2
Congratulations are most certainly in order for the ‘I Just Wanna‘ star!
Sure, while 68,000 may stand as many an act’s worst nightmare, it isn’t when it’s put into context.
For, by shifting this amount, she earns one of the highest first week figures in recent R&B history (no exaggeration) and does so without the benefit of a smash hit lead single.
Important, as the lack of a smash hit lead single has oft been used to defend a number of unfortunate first week results recently.
More importantly though, we can’t help but to wonder how many more copies Michelle would have shifted had her campaign depended less on ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta‘ and emulated Ciara‘s campaign, which we can all agree was nothing short of promo perfection (see ‘BET‘ residency).
As the saying goes, what’s done has been done, and K.Michelle has done very well. So, here’s to the continued success of both she and her thriving career!
