Let’s be honest, supporting Contemporary R&B hasn’t been easy in the last few years.
Left to fend for itself in a world without substantial radio backing, thinly spread budgets and widespread talk of it being ‘dead’, the genre has been dealt more than its fair share of commercial blows recently, much to the dismay of those who hold it most dear.
However, it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel today. A light, made a whole lot brighter by the force that is….Ciara.
Upon passing the 395,000 units sold mark in the summer, demand for the star’s Urban single ‘Body Party’ skyrocketed in the weeks following her performance of the song at 12th annual ‘BET Awards‘, pushing its global sales well past the 500,000 unit milestone.
Now, as the song spends its 21st consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100, its US sales have seen the Recording Industry Association of America award the single with Gold status, for shipments of half a million units in the market.
Upon learning of the news, the Grammy winner shared:

Marking her first solo Gold single since 2007’s ‘Like A Boy’, ‘Party’s certification also comes as good news for the entertainer’s close pal Future, who forged the number alongside producer Mike Will and Ciara herself, sure to celebrate this news just weeks after he earned another Gold single by way of Rihanna‘s ‘Love Song’, in which he features in.
