It appears record buyers see Justin Timberlake‘s vision. The Pop titan’s latest effort ‘The 20/20 Experience (2 of 2)’ is on course to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 next week. A fact which, no doubt, calls for celebration.
Sadly for rapper Nelly, the good fortunes of his ‘Girlfriend’ collaborator doesn’t extend to him. For, his latest LP ‘M.O’ is set to open with numbers that must be seen to be believed.

According to Hits Daily Double, the second round of JT’s ‘Experience’ will premiere will sales of…
350,000 – 375,000
While Nelly’s ‘M.O’, which benefitted from collaborations from the likes of Pharell Williams and Nicki Minaj, is on course to debut with a paltry…

Beyond presenting quite the contrast, both artists’ numbers are interesting on many a front.
Though impressive given the current sales climate (as well as fact his last album was released just six months ago), something tells us Team JT were hoping for better figures. For part 1 to open with numbers in excess of 900k, the 50%+ decrease in initial buyer interest is arguably alarming, as is the so-so performance of launching singles ‘Take Back The Night’ and ‘TKO’.
Still, with a world tour fast approaching, and few other artists selling anything near, we doubt Justin or his team are that bothered.
As for Nelly, whose general longevity remains impressive, there’s no way of avoiding the obvious. Whichever way it’s diced or sliced, the numbers are a catastrophe. Luckily for him, he had and continues to have his hands in many a pot (see: endorsements, clothing/drink lines, and TV). Perhaps it’s time to focus on those more, because record buyer focus has clearly shifted elsewhere.

Rihanna has become the latest casualty in NBC cable boss Bonnie Hammer’s decision to scrap the Style network. The end of the network has already resulted in eliminations of some staffers who can’t find other positions within the company.
Style was taken over by Esquire during a reorganization plan by Hammer, because the channel was “redundant” with its programming that was similar to Bravo, E! and Oxygen, all of which fall under the NBC umbrella. Style’s bigwigs had been planning for RiRi’s show to boost Sunday night’s ratings, a prime night for the former network.
Instead, Style — known for reality shows like “Jerseylicious” and “Giuliana and Bill” — was yanked at the 11th hour as RiRi’s “Styled to Rock” was scheduled to air.
When execs screened the singer’s reality competition series, it did not live up to expectations, according to one insider. It now has been dumped to Friday at 8 p.m. on Bravo, a historically low-rated slot. The show will debut Oct. 25 and features 12 up-and-coming designers picked by the singer and a slew of celebrity guest — including Miley Cyrus, Carly Rae Jepsen, Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Minogue — whose appearances obviously did not help the struggling series get a better time slot.
“Rihanna’s camp is pissed,” a Style network source tells us. “From promises to be a huge star on Style to a terrible time slot on Bravo. Ouch. The last original program to get that slot was “Platinum Hit” in 2011, which ran for five weeks.”
“Platinum Hit” was also a reality competition, featuring songwriters composing and performing songs.
As for the other hits on the now-defunct network, “Giuliana and Bill,” which averages 700,000 viewers per episode, will be moved to E!, where Giuliana Rancic is a popular host. Style’s hit “Tia & Tamera” will also move to E! in mid-October. “Jerseylicious,” which was scheduled to air this Sunday, has yet to find a home, even though Bravo airs reruns of the series.
There also has been a shakeup in the senior management team for both Bravo and Oxygen. In an internal email, changes were announced to appoint Oxygen’s Rod Aissa, senior vice president of development and production; Bravo’s Andy Cohen, executive vice president of development and talent, and Bravo’s Ellen Stone, executive vice president of marketing for both Bravo and Oxygen.

Justin’s sales from ‘The 20/20 Experience’ were due to the fact that he didn’t release an album since 2006, these sales, sees him adjusted to the climatic conditions in which is the music industry right now, i want to see Beyonce, Gaga, Rihanna or anyone else, releasing two albums the same year with first week sales of over a million copies, impossible, he will probably debut at #1 too, which is another record, two #1 albums in less than 8 months and it will probably go platinum as well, that’s an ELVIS thing. Nelly should just hook up with Ciara, they’ve got something in common. OK but for a rap album, those sales are depressing.
The difference between Nelly and Justin is that the latter is easy to follow. You know what each single is, when it’s coming out, when to look for the supporting videos, and an album release date is always attached to that information. Nelly has no direction. He experiments between country and hip-hop and fans don’t know what to expect or when to expect it. That’s not a formula for success. It just leaves people lost and confused, and as a result they stop paying attention.
Not only that, but his music is terrible.
It was obvious there was too much hype around Justin´s first album. I thought this second part was going to sell less than part one, it was obvious and it´s normal, but still around 500,000 copies or more. I don´t know. These figures seem low now. To be honest people have not been interested in his singles this year except for Mirrors.
I still have not listened to the second album so I don´t have an opinion about the music.

Well I believe and think that when Beyoncé do release her first single for her 5th album the single itself will probably sell at least 1 million copies before the release of the album and that could probably put the album sales at maybe 700-1 million copies first week because it is highly anticipated. This next album will be the first for her to sell at least or almost 1 million copies in its first week and also the album not being leak.
350-370k is a good number. These days most albums are debuting with under 250k first week. This is JT’s second album in six months, and unlike before he’s been virtually MIA with the promotion. It’s been over a month since the VMA’s and his only other televised appearance was Ellen. For him to get these kind of numbers under the circumstances is phenomenal actually. JT continues to win. 2013 belonged to him.
Pretty much, this. Some are hustling for a year doing the most to not even get 100k first week, and others only narrowly passing it. Justin getting 350k+ first week for an album of leftover tracks he’s barely promoting (just months after releasing another album) is a testament to his power. So the cynical and condescending remarks are a #fail. Too many so-called pop stars of today can only dream of 350k.
