As girl groups go, they don’t get much bigger than Destiny’s Child and TLC.
Indeed, both acts have created success narratives that are ground-breaking, trail-blazing. Success narratives that not only serve as a definitive blueprint, but narratives that are forever etched in Pop culture history.
It’s fitting, then, that The Saturdays – the UK’s current biggest female group, also recognise this – paying homage to the girl power pioneers during a recent performance on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.
Led by front-woman Vanessa White, the ladies navigated through Drake’s recent hit ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ before launching into a mash-up of TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’ and DC’s ‘Survivor’.
Find out how they fared after the jump…
Yes, yes, and yes!
It goes without saying that it wouldn’t be a Saturdays performance without questionable solos and non-existent harmonies. However, the tribute mix of songs was stellar, as was lead Vanessa’s vocals – which, prior to now, haven’t been as dependable as they once were. She, along with the ever-on-point Rochelle, delivered here – reminding that, for all the group’s cheese, there is amazing talent embedded in the quintet.
The Saturdays’ latest album ‘Living For The Weekend’ is available in stores now.
