Beyonce Dominates Down Under With ‘The Mrs Carter Show’ / Breaks Box-Office Records

Published: Tuesday 12th Nov 2013 by Sam

Trailblazing Beyonce continues to live up to her billing.

Last week saw the budding legend tour wrap the Australasian leg of her ‘Mrs Carter Show World Tour’; a leg Billboard report was not only one of the trek’s most ambitious, but one of its most successful.

Details after the jump…

In a press release blasted out today, the jaunt’s promoter Live Nation further cemented the fact that the critically acclaimed show packs quite the consumer punch.

For, having played 14 shows across all five of Australia’s biggest cities (as well as in neighboring New Zealand) , the tour becomes Beyonce’s most profitable in the region. And that’s not just hyperbole; the gigs shifted almost 220,000 tickets and grossed more than $40 million (AUD).

What’s more, the married mother of one also set a handful of attendance records in the process. The quad of dates at Auckland’s Vector Arena attracted 44,596 ticket-buyers — becoming a new benchmark for the venue.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the penultimate night of the tour at the Perth Arena over weekend generated a paid attendance of 14,758, a new record for the year-old venue, shattering the mark set recently by Pink.

Speaking on the 32-year-old’s unprecedented success in the region, Michael Coppel, President and CEO of Live Nation Australasia, said:

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with Beyoncé since the first Destiny’s Child tour in 2000, but this tour has been an absolute standout in terms of the showcasing her unparalleled talent, energy and joy for performing in one of the most spectacular productions ever to visit this country.”

The Aussie figures will add a significant boost to the tour’s overall box office gross, which already stood at well over $100 million (US) before heading to Aus.

All hail King B!

Jarred as we may be by the wait for new Bey material, there’s something to be said for an artist to be able to tour and generate such profit — without the scaffolding of a new album campaign. Put simply, Beyonce is touring (and winning) on the basis of her name alone. How many of today’s “top artists” can boast of that ability?

More power to her.
