With new single ‘The Art Of Letting Go’ released this week, iconic Mariah Carey is beginning to drip-feed details on its like-titled album.
During yesterday’s visit to The Angie Martinez Show on Hot 97, the diva supreme revealed that she’s targeting Valentines Day window next year to roll-out the LP, which serves as her 14th studio effort.
Her words after the jump…
Speaking on the record’s roll-out, the singer said:
“Album, top of the year. I’m thinking February. Jermaine (Dupri) will be mad at me if I say this. But I like the Valentines Day thing. Especially love songs. People want to hear the break-up songs, the I-hate-you-love-songs, the I-used-to-love-you-and-I-can-get-over-it-no-matter-what-I-do songs (laughs). That’s why”.
*************
While there’s ample logic to be found in Mimi’s “marketing plan”, we just wish she’d pair it with better material. For, having “lived” with the LP’s title track for a few days, it’s sadly not growing on us – nor the general public, if iTunes is anything to by.
In any case, perhaps all can be salvaged. There’s still four months until February, hence more than enough time to service a “lead” single that doesn’t sound like it’s spoken word poetry with a beat. We need (quality) hooks, melodies, and air of radio-friendly, that can comfortably be paired with the more “adult” lyrics she’s clearly channelling this go round. We’re rooting for Mimi. We just need her to root for herself rather than play herself with so-so songs.
