Despite never being formally elected by his people, Josè Eduardo Dos has stood as the President of Angola for the last 34 years- accused of murdering and manipulating to his power and exercising more of the same tactics to keep himself there.

However, despite numerous attempts made by many Angolans to raise awareness for the crimes they say he is guilty of, last Sunday saw their efforts to shine a light on his cruelty thwarted when he received a glowing endorsement from  world renown Pop icon Mariah Carey.

An unfortunate story below…

Delivering a two hour performance for the dictator last Sunday, Carey now finds herself on the receiving end of criticism from human rights activists and Angolans across the globe this week- slamming her decision to rub shoulders with the alleged murderer.

In explaining their anger, ‘Human Rights Foundation’ president Thor Halvorssen shared:

“It is the sad spectacle of an international artist purchased by a ruthless police state to entertain and whitewash the father-daughter kleptocracy that has amassed billions in ill-gotten wealth while the majority of Angola lives on less than $2 a day.”

Sponsored by the mobile-phone company owned by Santos’ daughter Isabel, the heat surrounding Carey’s show intensified after claims emerged that $65,000 of the money generated by it was handed to the Angolan Red Cross…owned by the Santos family.

Thor adds:

“Mariah Carey can’t seem to get enough dictator cash. Just five years ago she performed for the family of Libyan dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi.

‘Now, she goes from private performances to public displays of support and credibility for one of Africa’s chief human rights violators and most corrupt tyrants.”

The Daily Mail adds:

“Critics of Dos Santos claim he has murdered many politicians, journalists and other people who have defied his orders, as well as monopolizing and exploiting oil and diamond resources and seizing control of almost all aspects of government power.”

Mariah is yet to respond.

Must be nice to get $1m to lip synch.

she’s not the first musician to do this , she won’t be the last, didn’t J-Lo do something similar like last year. But if she was really hard pressed for the 1 million dollars why not do it. Even though i’m pretty sure she didn’t need it.

A million dollars to sing a couple of songs…. hell I’ll sing for the devil. LOL.

Heading is wrong, it should be “Angolan dictator pays Mariah $1 million to torture his people with noise pollution”.

  5. Naomi December 20, 2013

Well she did it for GADDAFIs son already some years ago so I’m sure she will do it again.

And this is why Lindsay Lohan is a drugged out flop. Queen Amanda Bynes and Legendtoya would never.

    Telegraph
From Beyonce to Black Sabbath: numerous singers have performed for autocratic regimes – and often, it would seem, for considerable amounts of money…

His long black hair slicked behind his ears, his white shirt crisp despite the balmy Caribbean evening, Mutassim Gaddafi sat back, took a drink of Cristal champagne straight from the bottle and enjoyed the show with an entourage of beautiful young women.

He had good reason to savour the moment. For the son and national security adviser of Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi had just invested a reported $1 million to obtain the services of Beyonce to welcome in 2010.

Clad in a body-hugging outfit, the singer earned her fee by belting out just five numbers on stage at an exclusive resort on the on the jet-setting island playground of St Barts.

A British guest, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, described to The Sunday Telegraph how the party ran until dawn as hundreds of bottles of champagne were downed and shuttle boats ferried revellers between the beach and luxury yachts anchored offshore.

Beyonce was not alone on the payroll that night – her fellow RnB star Usher delivered the countdown to midnight. Other celebrities in attendance included Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z, hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons, veteran rocker Jon Bon Jovi and singer-actress Lindsay Lohan.

Im starting to not like Mariah anymore. My love affiar seems to be fading away with her.

Everything she does has flopped (except Beautiful) & her performances has been worse then EVER.

I will always love her music but I just dont understand.

Wow. But as said before, J. Lo did the same thing. Whitney would have never.

I’m also concerned with Mariah showing her stomach. It doesn’t look good. #noshade but she needs a little drapery over it.

  9. DRB December 20, 2013

She gave a private show for the All Access Bank in Nigeria and a public concert in Angola. Surely, someone can get the story straight.

  11. Really? December 20, 2013

“Mariah Carey can’t seem to get enough dictator cash. Just five years ago she performed for the family of Libyan dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi”.

  15. S****** Blonde December 20, 2013

From Beyonce & J.Lo to Mariah, all them do shows to dictators, Madonna is one of the few artists who doesn’t make private shows to anybody, boss.

  16. pon_de December 20, 2013

FALSE story. Mariah performed at a benefit for the Angola Red Cross. The president’s daughter is the president of the Red Cross and SHE hosted the event! People can say anything these days and you birds peck it up…SMH

  17. TinaMinaj December 20, 2013

People trying to drag Beyonce into this should know she donated all the money she got from that performance…Try again!

  18. FutureCIARA December 20, 2013

    This is a Kii

  19. JER December 21, 2013

I’d do more than that and then some for $1million

  20. Todd December 21, 2013

She sang for charity , for the RED CROSS! Plus it’s not like shes goin ”Hey yall, imma sing for dem dictators”.
Is she supposed to know every single person in the effin audience? Is she supposed to do a background check on everyone?
I admit, the Gaddhafi case was a mess, but Jlo,Usher,Shakira and Beyonce did that too and SOME of them gave the money away /again-for charity.
Let my bish MC breathe for awhile,ok!

  21. JOHNVIDAL December 23, 2013

I don´t know what happened in this case and I don´t even care. But overall I don´t like this type of private concerts. People paying are usually rich enough only cos they are criminals, dictators, etc.
But let´s not act as if other artists don´t do it. Cos they do. Beyonce, Xtina Aguilera, JLo are the first ones who come to mind right now. Probably 90% of the artists.

  22. Kisses Down Low December 23, 2013

@Common sense Beyonce did though. And mariah was at the same event.
