Robin Thicke Picks Up Brand New Award… ‘Sexist Of The Year’

Published: Saturday 21st Dec 2013 by David

It may have shifted 6,380,000 units in the US alone, but Robin Thicke‘s ‘Blurred Lines’ seems to have pulled quite the cruel trick on his once flawless public persona.

For, thanks to its ‘eyebrow raising’ lyrics and playful take on the sensitive topic that is clear and discernible sexual consent, he has earned new found critics who say the cut goes a long way to trivialise rape.

So, in honour of the steps they say he’s taken towards degrading women, these critics have named him ‘Sexist of the Year.

In a poll carried out by the  ‘End Violence Against Women Coalition‘, Robin was crowned the winner of the ‘Sexist of the Year’ award- earning the title by way of the controversial number and comments made in its defence after its release.

On his win, the coalition’s Sarah Green shared:

“Our heartfelt congratulations to a worthy winner Robin Thicke for both his concerted sexist efforts, and in the end the platform he created for rejection of the use of women as objects to promote mediocre pop. Sexism might be de rigueur for some music industry ‘creatives’ but the times they are a-changin’.”

Digital Spy adds:

“They also noted several quotes made by the singer, including his interview with GQ, in which he said: “People say, ‘Hey, do you think this is degrading to women?’ I’m like, ‘Of course it is. What a pleasure it is to degrade a woman. I’ve never gotten to do that before.”

So, let us know…

Is Thicke deserving of the title?
