Minutes later, the ‘Last Chance’ lyricist did just that, confirming the launch of the forthcoming era and its first supporting music video!
Sure to mark one of the year’s biggest releases, there’s no doubt the hype around Minaj‘s third studio album will ignite a ‘B’Day‘-esque media storm once its release date is unveiled.
However, while her numbers are sure to keep the big wigs over at Universal happy, we’re more eager to hear how the success of her debut and the heat surrounding its follow-up have shaped her sound.
For, while it’d make ‘sense’ for Minaj to abandon Pop for ‘Hip Hop cred’ purposes, the fact remains that she is a very welcome voice on a number of radio formats.
This, a luxury few acts can say they enjoy and one she’d be foolish not to take into consideration when crafting jams for the release. Indeed, though a ‘Starships’-sounding launch single isn’t the answer, ‘Pink Friday’s success lay in its marriage of Pop, Hip Hop & R&B, birthing hits that sat just as well on ‘KIIS FM‘ as they did ‘Hot 97.’
So, how can Minaj create cuts to appease Sophia and Sharkeisha alike? ‘Get Like Me’ flavoured flows packing short, palatable and easily ‘coverable‘ lines that see her ditch the ‘million words a minute’ approach taken in ‘The Boys’, and reintroduce the cool and feminine ‘New Yoik’ sass found in ‘Getting Paid.’
