If ever Pharrell Williams had a day to be ‘Happy’, it’s today.
For the Neptunes frontman has scored his first number one on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist.
Interestingly, Williams isn’t the only major star earning a career first on the coveted tally; John Legend has charged into the top ten of the count – a height that had eluded him despite consistently impressive album sales.
Details after the jump…
By jumping #2-#1 this week, ‘Happy’ dethroned Katy Perry‘s once-formidable ‘Dark Horse’ which held firm at the top for a whopping four weeks.
The achievement will no doubt give a major boost to Williams’ upcoming LP ‘G I R L’ – which rockets into stores next week (March 3rd).
Elsewhere on this week’s tally, Legend’s stirring ballad ‘All Of Me’ (which is lifted from current LP ‘Love In The Future’) jumped seven places to #4. The feat sees the song become the singer’s most commercially successful US hit. Not at all bad for an act who has been thrilling album-loving audiences for more than ten years.
More power to them both!
