Hitmaker Pharrell Williams has ample cause to be ‘Happy’ this week.
For not only has his second solo album ‘G I R L’ charged straight to the top of the Official UK Album Chart, it’s done so with blockbuster sales.
Details after the cut…
The Columbia Records set opened atop of the coveted tally today, becoming the Neptunes frontman’s first British #1 album – both solo and as part of N.E.R.D.
What’s more, the LP shifted nearly 70,000 units first week – earning it the status of fastest selling album of the year (thus far) in the UK.
The numbers are particularly interesting in that they aren’t at all far off from the project’s first week projections in the US, where it’s set to debut with sales of 85k.
Why is this of importance? Well, despite being a major music market (and perhaps the most renown after America), the UK is geographically tiny compared to the US. Indeed, it’s roughly the size of Michigan state. Hence, Skateboard P’s British numbers are exceptionally impressive and indicate that his popularity abroad outweighs his solo pull on home soil.
Still, whichever way it’s diced or sliced, Mr Williams is winning. More power to him! {Source}
How much did Braveheart sale in the UK? kiiiii.
Hype will do everything because the album is really not all that! These songs are probably his worse productions in a while, everything sounds the same.
I’m not a fan of his album , I really only care for Brand New and Marilyn Monroe

Is that so??
Isn’t the UK GEOGRAPHICALLY bigger than Japan and yet according to the 2013 IFPI report;
1.) U.S., $4.48 billion
2.) Japan, $4.42 billion
3.) U.K., $1.33 billion
4.) Germany, $1.29 billion
But the Germany is also GEOGRAPHICALLY bigger than Japan and the UK and yet…
Didn’t Talk That Talk sell like over 100,000 copies in the first three days in the UK and open with 197,000 in the USA? Where was your propaganda “geographic” article then?
FLOP
@lovebird
Erm… Japan’s roughly 50% bigger than the uk in land mass and has over double the population along with having an extremely strong music culture with things like karaoke etc. so that’s why it’s got such a big music industry but your point about Rihanna is valid
I like pharrell but I know he capable of doing greater and this album is not…producers and songwriters can create the best records when its not for themselves!
BS
Samantha is such an embarrasement..
Congrats Pharrell!
BULLSH*T
WHEN UNAPLOGETIC FIRST CAME OUT SAM SAID
“In at #1 with a commendable 238,949 sold this week, ‘Unapologetic‘ surpasses sales of every other US release this week, marking the singer’s first time atop the Billboard 200.
Indeed, while she is still yet to match even the worst sales scored by many of her closest rivals, her current chart reign can only spell good news for both and her team, who succeeded in selling the LP on the back of its lead single, ‘Diamonds‘.
As it stands, the album has peaked at #1 in the UK, Australia (Urban) and of course, the US, almost falling prey to Taylor Swift‘s ‘RED’ which came in with 180,547 units one month after its October 22nd release.”
SHE SOLD ALMOST 4 TIMES WHAT OHARELL SOD AND IT WAS NOTHING BUT COMMENDABLE AND HE STILL THREW SHADE . BUT PHARELL UNDERSELLS AND HE IS “WINNING” BULSH*T
But congrats pharell . F*ck Samantha
How is he a FLOP when he’s #1?
