Mariah Carey is leaving no stone unturned on the promotional run for her semi-surprise of a new album.
Due any moment now (or “late May”, depending on which member of the singer’s team one speaks to), the set has seen the diva cover a myriad of magazines and will see her kick off the Today Show Summer Concert Series – as reported earlier today.
The 44-year-old’s press run also included a phone interview with international outlet Papel Pop.
During the light-hearted chat, Ms. Carey-Cannon was quizzed about her thoughts on Ariana Grande (who many deem the new…her), as well as Madonna, Beyonce, Lady GaGa, and more. Renown for her razor-sharp wit, and even sharper shade, what response did MC offer?

During a game of “which do you prefer”, the singer answered (when asked ‘Ariana Grande or Miley Cyrus’)…
“I don’t listen to Pop music, so I wouldn’t know. So, I’ll have to go with my daughter Monroe. She’s killing the game and she’s not even three years old.”

Great to see Mariah leave the trademark shade on the back-burner. She was refreshingly warm (for the most part). That said, all these elitist claims of “not listening to what’s in” doesn’t help the aura of disconnected diva that seems to trail her these days. Especially problematic given the chart positions of her latest releases.
As appreciators of her talent, who do actually want to see her do well, we feel her PR M-O moving forward should be “achieved, yet humble diva”. This elitist gimmick she tends to peddle won’t work in an era that is increasingly rewarding relate-ability.
