The Predictions Are In: Iggy Azalea & Future Set To Sell…

Published: Wednesday 23rd Apr 2014 by Sam

As two of Hip-Hop’s most exciting newcomers, all eyes are on how the numbers are looking for Iggy Azalea‘s debut effort ‘The New Classic’ and Future‘s sophomore set ‘Honest’.

Both LP’s blasted into stores yesterday after months of delays (and in Azalea’s case, years).

And while their fans are no doubt elated, one has to wonder what effect (if any) the push-backs have had on each project.

Well, wonder no more. Because the first week predictions are in and they await after the jump…

According to Hits Daily Double, Australian-bred Azalea is on course to debut with 50,000-55,000 – likely earning her the title of the week’s biggest selling new release.

Future trails behind slightly and is eyeing a 45,000-50,000 opening.

Hmm. Whichever way it’s diced or sliced, the numbers are a far cry from what they should be.

Yet, in providing fair context, both are a) still building fanbases and b) exist in an era where sales (alone) don’t wholly define an artist’s success narrative. Indeed, one needn’t look further than the various endorsements Iggy has racked up since hitting the scene, as well as both her and Future’s touring successes. Put simply, in an era of 360 deals, both are still making money — as are their labels.

Still, the numbers will need to remain consistent in the weeks and months if both projects are to save face.
