It’s “Girl Groups” week over at our friends at Billboard!
After winning over readers with their celebration of the “biggest girl groups of all time” in February, the “Music Bible” is launching a week-long homage to diva syndicates of past and present.
Always a favorite talking point here at That Grape Juice HQ, we’ve decided to join in the honoring of “girl power” by getting your input on the first of the week’s tributes – ‘top 40 girl group songs of all time’.
Based solely on chart performance on the Hot 100 (and adjusted to weigh changes in music such as digital downloads, streaming, etc.), the likes of Destiny’s Child, SWV, Spice Girls, and more duke it out for top ranking. As expected, fan favorites like TLC and The Supremes dominate the tally with multiple entries, but there are many surprises along the way.
See the R&B dominated list below and tell us: are you surprised?

TLC rule Girl Group albums sales. The Supremes rule Girl group #1 singles. The rest don’t matter.

TLC was very successful and talented and so was DC! DC has more longevity tho and if they come out with a mother record with brand new songs they will smash the industry and their own legacy! The impact of all the girls combined got u on edge and there isn’t even a damn movie #QueenB
I see no lies!!!
Preach honey PREACH! #QueenBSlayage
I love how the first every girl group to chart is represented. The Shirelles. Love them. Whatever happen to Divine Lately? The Supremes started the whole girl group craze and DC3 took it with them when they separated.
Unfortunately Combined is the only way Kelly will see success as seeing non of her albums are platinum and only one of her albums are gold.
I still like her though, and TAGG was a good solid R&B album her singles choices and promotion was just sloppy as always
You sound mad boo…Kelly is paid and will ALWAYS be…
YASSS @ DC and TLC slaying. #Legends
I’m surprise that Danity Kane is not there, they told us last year their will be world domination. LMFAO. DK fans answered this one How have Day 26 got signed to BMG & DK are still working out how to sell their show tickets Only NYC sold out, That Grape Juice your article stating that DK was selling they tickets ferociously, are you going to do an update. I notice that Pussycat Dolls the biggest girlband of 2008 is on the list. Nothing else in the article is a surprise because the list is based on chart position & length of time you stayed at #1. The Emotions 5 weeks at #1
Danity who? I don’t know them.
Where’s Survivor?
OMG…The Supremes and The Pointer Sisters,wow..My mum used to have all their records,i’m sure she’s still got them but damn, this list takes me back sooooo many years
i was scrolling down this list and i was getting closer and closer to number 10 thinking where is 702?!!! and bam!!! they are at number 9. yes that song was huge along with no scrubs and independent women. what surprised me here was the divine song….lately, i been thinking bout you baby, just sitting away watching the days go by…..so nostalgic, the days of my childhood.
Grats DC for 3 entries … wow Beyonce’s career has been really huge!!
I was such a DC3 fan!!!!
I am still praying for a reunion, I like them better together rather than separately.
