Despite sagging sales and even lower chart positions, Mariah Carey remains an icon in the eyes of millions.
As such, it’s little surprise the World Music Awards have named the diva as latest recipient of their aptly titled Icon Award.
Details after the jump….
Set to take place in Monte Carlo on May 27th, the show will honor the five-octave songbird for “having sold over 200 million records and having more No.1 singles in America than any other Solo Act”.
The singer will also perform at the event.
A major coup for Carey’s upcoming album ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’, the promo spot will take place two days after the said LP hits stores.
And while some may question the logic in Mimi leaving her biggest market to perform abroad during the LP’s release week, the World Music Awards is broadcast to a global audience on over 180 networks. Thus providing a huge audience to promote the project.
Other performers on the night include Miley Cyrus, Jason Derulo, and Ricky Martin.
Randomness: The timing of this certainly reads are “interesting” given that another diva, a rival of Mimi’s, is receiving her own Icon honor at a different award show a week prior.
