Injecting a healthy dose of wit, colour and humour into the traditionally straight laced genre, Nicki Minaj‘s arrival on Hip Hop’s scene now over a decade ago stands as one of the more interesting chapters in the field’s story.
Now, months after it was filmed, ‘Hot 97′ has released a ‘97 Second‘ long interview with the performer, seeing her acknowledge how her unashamed individuality has helped redefine what it means to be a Hip Hop personality, commending the likes of Cyndi Lauper, Jay Z and Lil Wayne for helping her do just that.

With a new era on the way, here’s hoping Minaj doesn’t completely do away with the cards she used to top her genre’s deck.
For, to be mature does not mean to be mundane, and it’d be pretty foolish of the rapper to deliver an album that doesn’t shine an electric pink light on all facets of her personality with material and supporting music videos just as striking as she is.
After all, while Lil Kim can bill the above as a timeless/ groundbreaking performance, Minaj is yet to deliver a live show or music video worthy of her star power, which is why we’re hoping the lyricist teams up with creatives akin to Aisha Francis and Seo Hyun Seung to take visual game to the next level.
