It appears turning in an amazing album will not be enough to rescue Mariah Carey from chart embarrassment next week.
For, just one day after the sales estimates for her latest opus ‘Me. I Am Mariah..The Elusive Chanteuse’ were revised down to 60,000 from an already questionable 70,000, the figure has again taken a dip.
Details below…
According to Hits Daily Double, the set (which was preceded by three singles) is now on course to debut with sales of…
55,000 – 60,000
***********
There’s no way of spinning this — the numbers are a disaster and serve as a fatal blow to one of the messiest campaigns in recent memory.
It’s a sorry shame as ‘The Elusive Chanteuse’ is – from our vantage point – Mariah’s strongest body of work since 2005’s ‘Emancipation Of Mimi’.
Worse still, beyond the dramatic drops, the figure suggests that besides the general public, the interest of her own fan base is eroding too. After all, promo or no promo, Mariah’s name is supposed to carry a brand of weight that should see her first week figures be at least double of what’s being forecasted. At least double.
At this point, Mimi and her team would be better off plotting her next project, as this one appears to be dead on arrival. Sad.
