Not even the likes of Beyonce could surpass Mariah Carey this time around, unable to match the icon’s sales stats when both were placed on TIME’s list of Pop’s most enduring entertainers!
How Mimi beat Bey?
Find out below…
Flaunting their findings here, the publication calculated that Mariah stands tall as the most successful and enduring Pop entertainer to debut after 1960 by using a points system which sees each act on the tally awarded a score of 10 for every #1 they scored on the ‘Hot 100.’
‘The Daily Mail’ explains:
Mariah’s best year was 2005 when she released the singles We Belong Together, Don’t Forget About Us, and Shake It Off.
Carey also scored major points for 1995 when she dropped Fantasy and One Sweet Day alongside Boyz II Men.
The five-time Grammy winner had less luck with her 14th studio album – Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse – which has sold a dismal 103,000 copies.
Quite interestingly, Beyonce’s ranking on the list did not come with the benefit of points awarded to Destiny’s Child, despite the fact that she served as its lead singer/songwriter.
This, when coupled with a chart record that hasn’t seen her top the ‘Hot 100‘ since 2008, made it impossible for her to beat Carey, with her most successful chart year as a solo act being 2003 thanks to smash hit singles ‘Baby Boy‘ and ‘Crazy in Love.‘
