She’s back!
True to her trailblazer status, Mary J. Blige is embarking on an ambitious new project christened ‘The London Sessions’.
The concept LP, which serves as the singer’s first since 2011’s ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues’, is unique in that it was created during a one-month studio run in London and was sewn together by primarily British songwriters and producers. Indeed, the likes of Naughty Boy, Emeli Sande, and Disclosure were drafted in to create the album.
And having given fans a taste of what to expect with new number ‘Right Now’, the Grammy winning diva has unveiled the set’s official cover – which you can peep above – and its UK and US release dates, which await below…
‘The London Sessions’ will arrive in UK stores on November 24th (with ‘Right Now’ serving as its official first single); while Stateside, the set will hit shelves a week later on December 2nd and will be lead by the song ‘Therapy’ – which debuts September 23rd.
Speaking on the impetus for the project, Blige says:
“It’s all about the London Music scene and I’m so excited to have been part of it, to record my album. The songs are fun, therapeutic and soulful. This is a beautiful change for me and I’m proud of what we have done here.”
Capitol Music Group Chairman Steve Barnett adds:
“Mary J. Blige created a one-of-a-kind blend of hip-hop and soul that has excited fans for more than 20 years, making her one of the most successful and acclaimed artists in any genre of music. The London Sessions is a fantastic album; another step forward for this great and enduring artist”.

We’re officially excited!
In an era that is so littered with sameness, we love that Mary was compelled to think outside the box and instead invite the world into the new one she’s built. Fingers crossed the album delivers!
