As the age old adage goes: sex sells.
And it’s a memo Nick Jonas seems to have read and digested.
For, yesterday the 22-year-old became a viral sensation when a racy new photoshoot for Flaunt Magazine spread like wildfire.
The snaps, which – given our family site stance – are a tad too revealing to post (but are easily locatable online) saw the former Jonas Brothers member recreate Mark Walberg’s infamous underwear pose — leaving little to the imagination.
Beyond instantly raising the singer’s profile, the edgy images have raised the chart position of his latest single ‘Jealous’ too.
Details below…
Already a burgeoning hit on radio, the track had also enjoyed a favourable response on iTunes where it had been steadily climbing into the top 40 on the US tally.
Yet, following the arrival of the pics, the song shot up straight into the top ten, where it currently sits at #9.
The entire episode will likely give a super boost to Jonas’ forthcoming self-titled solo debut – due later this year.
And while we could bemoan the tactics employed to assist the song, the fact remains that Nick isn’t doing anything that hasn’t been happening for years. If anything, his actions are arguably progressive. Arguably. As, for years, the media have been fetishising females for the male gaze. Now, it appears there’s a levelling of the playing field – where male acts, such as Nick, are realizing that commercial potential attached to flaunting their assets.
From where we’re standing, it’s somewhat futile debating whether it’s “right” or “wrong”. The fact is…it’s working.
