Chart Check: Nicki Minaj’s ‘Ananconda’ Goes Platinum

Published: Wednesday 8th Oct 2014 by David

Her career may be missing a US #1 single, but this week has seen Nicki Minaj bathe in Platinum showers delivered to her by her latest single ‘Anaconda.

Released on August 14th 2014, the infectious Rap single has now crossed sales of 1 million units, doing so with the help of no less than 100,000 units sold each week since the release of its music video!

Though streaming points may have pushed it into the Top Five with relative ease, it’s the singles sales that have seen it awarded with Platinum status before the release of its parent album ‘The Pink Print.

Perhaps a slap in the face to Jennifer Lopez‘ similarly themed ‘Booty‘, numbers moved by ‘Conda’ have seen it “slay” on a streaming and sales front, blowing the stream-dependent ‘Booty’ out of the water after critics pitted the single’s against each other only to watch the latter sink when the hype surrounding its titillating video did all of nothing for its sales.

Indeed, while ‘Anaconda’ sits at #23 on iTunes USA eight weeks into its run, finding ‘Booty’ on the same chart would be somewhat of a mission impossible for any who tried…as it isn’t there at all.

So, let us know…

With both ladies ticking the same boxes in their lyrics and videos, why do you think the general public threw their support behind Minaj’s bop and not Jenny’s?
