The good people of the Democratic Republic of Congo were treated to a performance put on by ‘Locked Up‘ singer Akon recently, taking to the country to watch him bring a number of his biggest hits to life in the city of Goma.
Unfortunately, if criticisms aimed the singer’s way hold any weight, his audience soon learned that they could look but not touch when he decided to crowd-surf in a giant bubble…in a reported bid to avoid catching the Ebola virus.

Though airborne transmission of the disease has not been documented during outbreaks, reports claim that Akon’s decision to surf the crowd in the transparent bubble came in direct response to the diseases’ continued reign in West Africa, claiming eight deaths in Nigeria and 1,998 in Liberia.
‘The Ebola virus is no joke,’ harrumphed The Source website. ‘And to avoid contracting it from anybody, when Akon left the stage to crowd surf with the people that were attending his concert, he did so in a huge plastic protective bubble.’
What the website did not report was that the five-time Grammy nominee has performed inside the stage prop on a number of previous occasions including in Perth, Australia, and Dubai, both in 2010. Neither of those countries were battling Ebola outbreaks at the time.
