As recent years have taught us, Mariah Carey‘s “new” voice is as unpredictable as the lottery.
One day she’ll hit the jackpot only to miss the mark entirely the next.
An instance of the latter hit headlines recently when mic-feed audio from her performance at New York’s Rockefeller Center went viral for all the wrong reasons.
In a bid to perhaps remind the masses of her gravitas, the seasoned diva took to Instagram last night to share a series of interestingly timed clips of vocals warm-ups before hitting the stage for a Christmas concert.

Yes, on occasion she may sound like she’s been chewing gravel, however we’ve never questioned the epicness that is Mariah’s voice…when it’s working.
That said, we also refuse to be roused by momentary displays such as this, which have clearly been dressed-up as impromptu to prove a point.
Now, if she were to replicate this on stage…for a whole show…then we’d be cartwheeling with excitement.
In the here and now, though, this was…cute.

There are plenty of videos from her Christmas concerts online and she sounds great. You didn’t post those, Sam. Shady muthafúka.
The joke about it is that in all her struggles it’s never been the whistle notes that have had the vocal issues. Her full chest voice has been the main root of her recent problems.
Sometimes she gets it right but her legacy and vocal history in this music industry is undeniable.
Some singers can sing and not warm up but don’t think that applies to Mariah, especially nowadays.
The heifer too busy being late here, there and everywhere and not doing the warm ups to have her voice on form.

That´s not the issue. The issue is why she has more than so many musicians that are 100 times better than her. Mariah carey with her tremendous catalogue and voice for example 🙂

How come Mariah has to prove her ability to sing and make high notes after such a huge career like hers? The fact is that time goes by and this new generation of public (very young) doesn’t know all about the crazy stuff Mariah has released for years now. The last MC’s record has flopped while Ariana is rising like she’s THE new thing or the NEW MC but there was, there is and there will always be ONE AND ONLY Mariah Carey. I love Ariana Grandé, tat’s not the problem but I don’t need any proofs of vocalizes to know if Mariah is still up in the game. This is for all these s*** talkers: If you feel so concerned about Mariah’s vocals abilities, show everybody if you can do a quarter of what she did and then we’ll see. She’s only human and nobody’s perfect. I think she has the right to make mistakes after all the wonderful gifts she gave us all along these years, don’t blame it on her. There’s not much artists who truly sing in live, don’t forget that.

Sam always so pressed when it comes to Mariah Carey! There are tons of videos in the Internet from this year where Mariah sounds this good and better. Media and especially people like Sam just want to create news when she has a bad day (a bad day that most of the other pop girls would want to have in their best day in their prime 🙂 )
Of course you know Sam Mariah Carey´s voice is this good and is 20 times better than any of your faves voices, past and present (except for my beloved Whitney Houston who is another true great of course, and is one of your faves).
I used to think that MC was the greatest vocalist before I listened to Aguilera. I still love her voice, though. I need them to make a duet :).
Technically speaking, Aguilera is a horrid vocalist. Talented, yes, but she’s got very little musicianship.

I’m a lamb but not delusional. Mimi’s voice has been inconsistent for over a decade now. I’m not a singer nor a vocal connoisseur by any means, but those vocals have been OFF. She is still a legend and has one of the greatest discographies next to Janet and your favs could never!!! 😆

I find it quite interesting that she’s on night #4 of her sold-out Christmas shows in NYC’s Beacon Theatre, which are getting great reviews by fans and critics alike, and yet there hasn’t been one single solitary post/video put up on here about that?!?!? There are plenty of videos from her christmas concerts of her sounding just as good as she did during her Pre-Rainbow days but since you’ve gotta be the a*** you are,you deliberately choose to ignore them and jump on everytime she has a bad day.Common sense tells me that when one has used her voice to the extent Mariah has hers,he or she will struggle after sometime.Expecting her to sound consistently exceptionally great after 25yrs+ of professional singing is simply stupid.Mariah will always be regarded as one of if not the greatest female vocalist of all time while Samantha will be remembered for……nevermind
