Lil Wayne isn’t the only Hip Hop titan facing legal drama this year.
For this week has welcomed the arrival of developments in ongoing legal palava in the lives of Jay Z and ‘Stan’ lyricist Eminem.
Details below…
Eminem took legal aim at the New Zealand National Party had used his song ‘Lose Yourself’ in their 2014 campaign without his permission.
The rapper has now teamed up with his publishers to seek damages and are now set to take on the party in court in June.
In September, a spokesperson for the entertainer’s publishing company, Eight Mile Style LLC, and Martin Affiliated LLC, Joel Martin, hit the governing party with the statement below.
Eminem’s publishers were not approached for permission to use any of Eminem’s songs for this campaign advertisement. It is both disappointing and sadly ironic that the political party responsible for championing the rights of music publishers in New Zealand by the introduction of the 3 strikes copyright reforms should itself have so little regard for copyright.’
We do not hesitate to take immediate action to protect the integrity of Eminem’s works, particularly where a party, as here, has sought to associate itself with Eminem and his work.
The party denies using the song and claims it pulled the song they used in the campaign from the Australian creatives Beatbox.
Alas, they’ll have to try harder than that if they are to convince the ‘Roman’s Revenge‘ wordsmith, unmoved by the following statement released by their campaign manager Steve Joyce.
He shared:
We think it’s pretty legal, we think these guys are just having a crack and have a bit of an eye for the main chance because it’s an election campaign.
Meanwhile, Jay Z finds himself tasked with fighting rumours of the Maury Povich persuasion this week.
For, a 21 year old man named Rymir Satterthwaite has claimed that the Roc Nation mogul is his father, coming forward to claim that he was born out of an affair between his mother and the rapper, currently married to ‘Second Nature’ singer Beyonce.
The Daily Mail reports:
Court documents uncovered in the report show that Jay – real name Shawn Corey Carter – was sued by Satterthwait (via his legal guardian) in 2014.
The Enquirer claims in the report that Satterhwaite – via his legal guardian – filed the civil lawsuit against Carter in December last year.
His legal guardian, a paralegal named Lillie Coley claims Carter and his lawyer Lise Fisher provided ‘fraudulent’ and ‘false’ information to a judge leading to the case being dismissed, according to the report.
Why does everybody always bash women for how they look the moment they don´t look perfect for nowadays standards but nobody says anything about how old Eminem´s face look? 🙂
Good point, but it’s not a new thing. When men look like wrinkled old leather it’s called ‘distinguished’, when women look the same it’s called grotesque.
This has been through the ages.
@John
How dare you?….Emimem is a God, don’t f*** with my man B****!
Em’s case is strong. On the Jay Z thing, there are a lot of nutjobs looking for a come up. Then again Jay has had some smoke and mirrors about children, allegedly so..
*play Billie Jean*
The God Rap will win, the ex-drug dealer must have like 15 childrem in Brooklyn alone so this is not a big deal.
The god of rap?? Is that a joke, anyways people always looking for a quick come up, and the guys is a aspiring rapper to so he will say and do anything to get his name out there.
hahaha. as if Kid Rock from Detroit got anything on Jay-Z the real rap legend
You’re annoying.
Blue Ivy remains unbothered
What’s this site’s obsession with using Daily Mail as a credible source???They are known to exaggerate “facts”,falsifying reports or just quoting anonymous random “sources”
It’s not just Eminem. The likes of George Clooney,Brad Pitt etc haven’t aged that well either but it’s the women who get called out for not looking perfect
