The much-anticipated ratings are in and it’s been revealed that the 13 minute spectacle commanded a whopping audience of 118.5 million.
That’s 3 million+ viewers more than last year’s halftime featuring Bruno Mars (115.3 million), and sees the showing – which featured Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz – become the most-watched Super Bowl halftime featuring entertainment ever (dating back to 1991).
It’s vital to add that the actual game, between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, was the most watched Super Bowl (and US TV telecast) ever – attracting total viewership of 114.4 million. Historically, the Halftime show segment peaks slightly higher due to added viewership from those not watching the match. A trend that has occurred year-on-year for the last decade.
Viewed this way, it’s arguable that Katy’s feat is less to do with her and instead due to the bigger number of folk tuning in to the game.
