Jay Z has had enough.
The rapper’s new streaming platform, TIDAL, has been the subject of much scrutiny since launching earlier this month. And, after maintaining a notable silence on the matter, the mogul is speaking up and out.
Moments ago, he took to Twitter to deliver a lengthy response to the naysayers.
His words below…
Needless to say, it’s a smart and arguably necessary move on Jay’s part to address the drama.
By and large, we agree with what he’s saying too. It takes a lengthy period of time for the true potential of a project such as this to reach its full potential. From where we’re standing, it’s disheartening to see so many almost willing it to fail.
That said, in keeping it 100, one of TIDAL’s immediate missteps was not touting the cool content and its exclusives from the onset. Instead, pushed to the forefront were the premium price (and not the standard $9.00 option) and the assembly of stars at “that” press conference.
It would have better served all involved to stage a low-key launch, with a primary focus on the platform’s unique points of difference (i.e. video and artist exclusives). The lack of anything to tantalise the masses ultimately left the door open for the detractors to attempt a tear-down.
In any case, the whole situation clearly needs some damage control. Can Jigga and co stage an Olivia Pope style turn-around? Let us know below…
