Jay Z‘s TIDAL streaming service is said to have to picked up 100,000 new subscribers in the last three days today, won over after a number of the rapper’s celebrity pals pledged their allegiance to the product in NYC.

Sprint and parent SoftBank have bought a minority stake in Jay Z’s subscription music service, The Post has learned.
While the size of the investment couldn’t be learned, sources said the deal values Tidal at around $250 million. Just last month, Jay Z finalized the $56 million acquisition of Aspiro, the Swedish company that owns Tidal. He remains the biggest shareholder, sources said.
Tidal claims to have signed up 100,000 subscribers since Kanye West, Rihanna, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys and even Daft Punk joined Jay Z on stage, according to industry sources.
Unfortunately,the service’s success walks in hand in hand with criticism it continues to receive from those who are unimpressed by what it has to offer.

It is definitely a wake up call for labels to restructure the way they do business. Tidal will offer ALL artists more in royalties than Spotify or any other competitor. It’s an attractive incentive to explore going the independent route and keeping a larger portion of your profits #TheCarters

I didn’t really expect it to do well. We already have Spotify, youtube, pandora, illegal downloading ETC. What is Tidal offering that is new and beneficial besides the ridiculous price? I’m not really here for it like I thought I would be! This just screams “we want your money”!
It may not have anything new to offer the listeners but it allows the artists to get what they think they deserve for their music instead of being ripped off by Spotify. It also allows all the people in the background (writers, producers, etc.) To actually gain as well because all the other streaming services only fend for themselves, whereas tidal is for the artists and creators of the music.

There used to be a time when people would pay for music. Tidal has over 25 million songs on the application. People used to buy records so they could listen to. Music is powerful and has helped a lot of people through times in their lives. People feel so entitled that how dare they even think about paying for something that someone (the artists) has worked their whole lives (a lot of no pay) to put into it. $9.99 for a premium account is actually a good buy considering you have access to millions of ad-free content.
