Tonight brought with it two knockouts: one of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. challenger Manny Pacquiao and the other of the U.S. national anthem by singer/actor/comedian Jamie Foxx.
Lending his soulful croon to the historic number, Foxx’s organ-accompanied rendition went out with a very unexpected Holy Ghost-inspired bang.
Sending some into a praise, while others (like our friends at VH1) branded the performance “cringe-worthy,” see what we mean and weigh in below:

That organ did it for me, chile! I was so here for the organ playing in the background! The performance wasn’t good, but that sweet organ made it unique and tolerable.
He tried too hard in my opinion. It’s not that Jamie can’t sing but this wasn’t the time or song to show off mediocre runs and improv skills. One of the worst renditions I’ve heard alongside R. Kelly’s and Monica’s.

Who cares about vocals nowadays anyway? If people really did care, every American Idol/X Factor/The Voice contestant would be selling millions and filling stadiums; and Charli XCX/Tove Lo would not be defining pop music today.

I agree. All of the extra runs and etc. are just not needed. The more simple and heartfelt the arrangement, the better it will sound.
These “OMG BEYONCE WAS 10 FEET AWAY” need to have an MGM arena of seats, the world revolves around a burning ball of gas called THE SUN! NOT BEYONCE! Anyway, I liked it, it was a good twist. And the ending of it was entertaining…

I most certainly agree… She is an amazing singer, and entertainer all round. But this is somebody else’s moment, it is ungracious of some people to always feel the need to drag down others using her name… I just can’t stand the tackiness.

Can’t nobody sing like they use to anymore with soul. Beyonce would of yodeled it with a growl to high h3ll. Her voice is so loud that it is co considered a “YES” chile. Tissue, (Tinashe) would of medico-red it. Nobody can sing it like me because I’m in pain because the world “ain’t ish” anymore so I’m going to church. Sorry but that was not a grade A performance for Mr. Foxx some people are not meant to sing everything and Jamie is not meant to sing the national anthem in any way, shape, and or form.
I know I’m the odd one out but I honestlhy thought he did great. I expected him to give me straintina hollerlera judging by the comments. It was rough around the edges throughout but i guess thas what i liked about it but I guess I like his voice.the song is so boring and over sung so it takes that for me to like it.
I’m not trolling either. I really did like it. The truth is, he’s not Beyonce. The song sounds cuteer when guys sing it. When these song it I liked that as well. Standards for singing is different for guys, we can afford to f*** up a note here and there and still sound grew. Beyonce can’t.
