Happy spent 10 weeks at #1 and sold 13.9. Million worldwide. You can’t win them all. Beyonce has enough awards in this lifetime. I’m sure she’s happy and happy for the other Artist. Look at it this way, she’s won more Grammys then Mariah, Whitney and Janet combined, however she has not sold nearly as many records as them, that doesn’t mean her music is better either. It was far more competition in the 80’s and 90’s. There was so much timeless music. They all have and had their moments. Well Pharell’s song happy was a success, but Beyonces album outsold ALL of the other albums in the category. Her album had the most impact and was on 7 year end charts on billboard. She dominated R&B charts the entire year. There’s no denying the impact she had with her album. But she has won a lot of awards and to answer for question, she still would have won over artists in the 90s because she’s a total package. Most of the artists like whitney, janet, Mariah, and madonna couldn’t sing and dance like Bey. Beyonce is the that total package since Tina Turner. No shade to the rest of the legends though.

Mariah Carey has written 17 of her 18 number 1’s and could hit notes no other artist of this generation could dream of. Whitney Houston is and will always be known as the voice. Janet Jackson defined dance, like her brother Michae. Rhythm Nation took it to a whole new level and will always be a classic, she was the first to do it. I guarantee Beyonce will always look up to these women. There are plenty of more out there, aretha, chaka khan, toni braxton, patti, mary j blige, anita baker, etc. it was based solely on creativety and voices and trend setting. Music was meaningful and didn’t sound alike, like todays artist. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and would know who the artist was when I heard their voice on the radio. I do think Alicia Keys is the closest of this generation, my opinion. Beyonce would of fell in with Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah and Mya in the 90’s. They all had hits and was selling albums. However their music wasn’t anything that wasn’t heard or done before. I was a big fan of there’s. Another way to look at it is Mariah’s Daydream Album sold 25 million and was the biggest album that yeah, one sweet day off that album still holds th record as longest at #1, but didn’t win a single Grammy. But This Beck artist album didn’t sell nearly as much as Beyonce but it won album of the year recently. Right now artist are more worried about making money then quality music. Music is dead. I only buy older music and songs from respectable Artist. DIL was a nice song to play in the car.

Beyoncé has longetivity, impact, sales, and influence. All of which makes a LEGEND. She’s paid her dues. As for as Nicki, she isn’t a legend yet, but she is on her way to being an icon. She is constantly crossing over and appealing to larger audiences outside of hip hop. Her resume is developing quite nicely.
