From The Vault this week journeys back to the beginning of the new millennium with a party-anthem – the aptly titled ‘Fiesta’ by R. Kelly and Jay-Z.
Released in 2001 in remixed form, ‘Fiesta’ was the third single from Kellz’ fourth studio album ‘TP-2.com‘ which saw the light of day the previous year. Joining the two heavyweights was Hip-Hop duo Boo & Gotti.
Commercially, the track hit #1 on the Hip-Hop/R&B tally and #6 on the Hot 100, and is believed to be the catalyst for R. and Hova’s ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ joint LP released a year later
The video for the cut was directed by Little X alongside R. Kelly and was set on a tropical beach full of scantily-clad ladies roused and ready to keep the party going.
With murmurs of joints albums for both R. Kelly and Jay-Z respectively with fan Trey Songz and wife Beyonce, we must say that we’re all for projects as such. Whether considered a side project like Pink’s You+Me and Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz or a continuation of the artists involved’s sound like Lucy Pearl – fronted by Raphael Saadiq – and Chris Brown and Tyga’s ‘Fan Of A Fan’, we feel it is a great way to refresh one’s brand by giving something unique especially in an industry where being confined in a box is the norm.
Hopefully the future will see more talented artists like Robert and Shawn get together to create undeniable jams like this.
You raggedy biitch dont start because im starting to like ci but i will drag that irrelevant biitch back to the slums of ATL so try me

This is why I come for Ciara, the squad ALWAYS wants to make fun of an artist death or have something to say, but then get mad when they get dragged. Smh.

Jay Z can actually sell albums; his success is due to his business mogul mindset, his relationships with the Hip Hop community, his marketing strategies, and of course his actual talent. There’s an abundance of talented underground rappers that will never make it big, because they don’t know how to market themselves or create business relationships. How do you think Puff has managed to outdo Jay-Z’s net worth without putting out any music for nearly a decade…
You can take away ALL Jay’s Hot 100 #1’s… And, his career/achievements still would be amazing. People give these #1’s too much credit. They’re just cheap singles that really means nothing in the end. It’s about IMPACT. Mariah has 18 #1’s but her biggest & most impactful song isn’t even a top 20 hit. Same with Jay. Most of his fans don’t even like his mainstream s***. The most impressive thing about Mr. Carter is his ALBUM SALES! <—- That's what really matters. Especially, an artist coming from his era.
^Absolutely,i just think his album sales would be quite peculiar had he been a pop star.Hip hop fans would rather get the whole body of work as opposed to picking singles. For a pop star, hits do matter.
I’ve always thought Hero is/has always been more iconic than AIWFCIY.Sure the latter sold more but Hero is like a Mini-We Are The World as far as cultural relevance is concerned
Mariah IS getting a lot better vocally in Vegas, I will say that, and I respect her not trying to compete with today’s acts but she needs to retire while her legacy is still in tact.
Mariah isn’t gonna retire. She’ll retire when she’s dead.
AnnaliseKeatingsNewWigJuly 26, 2015
Jay-Z is one of the few rappers that has managed to crossover with some of the biggest acts (from contrasting genres). What other rapper could pull off an album with Linkin Park, or a collab with Coldplay? And still have their ‘credibility’ in tact?
_______
I will play devils advocate tho, and say that Coldplay went downhill after they did those Jay-Z collabs, i think that’s what is so risky about mixing genres and fanbases.
As long as Jay-Z associates with someone who sings passionately about drinking watermelon, I can’t take him seriously. He is a mogul that has made hundreds of millions, YES but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s clinging to Beyoncé for Success. Thank God my fave is independent and owns her masters, and ACTS her age.
Take that bullsh*t elsewhere because you’re not convincing anyone here. Sockhanna would be a NOBODY if it wasn’t for Jay-Z giving her a shot even after that shambolic/murderous performance of Mariahs iconic ‘hero’. Or without her ‘idol’ Beyoncé giving her direction, less you forget ???????????? Regardless of your bitter comments Jay-Z will always be the owner of sockhannas dog leash, while Beyoncé throws scooby snax at your bum b*tch of a fave????

Well,i do appreciate the acknowledgement Mark as you hardly ever say anything positive about her.As for retirement…hmmm, see this woman loves to write music and sing and produce. She’s been doing that since she was 15.How do you suddenly stop doing that?Legacy or not
I think it’s one thing to write because you love to do so and another to continue on tarnishing everything you’ve worked so hard to build by conducting yourself inappropriately on stage (lip-syncing etc.) or just acting Diva all the time.
Not to mention, she has Monroe and she says they love to sing. She could still get pleasure and a sense of fulfillment by installing her values and work-ethic in her daughter and teach her how to write and produce as she gets older. But at this point with Mariah’s voice in the state it’s in, and how sometimey it can get, it’s hard for me to think of her producing another #1 album, getting another hit or consistently doing well live on stage.

Another day, another Azealia Banks rant aimed at her peers.
Despite recently announcing she has new music loading for 2025, Banks – instead of promoting the eagerly anticipated cut – is using her platform to cut into her more successful fellow femcees.
Because of hits found aboard her seventh studio album, 2022’s ‘Renaissance,’ music megastar Beyonce captured her 32nd career win at the 2023 GRAMMYs – a historic feat that made her the most-awarded act in the ceremony’s 66-year history.
How about Future going #1…..
JaY Z made a career of clinging to others. Rather it’s was Kanye, Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Keys (his only #1), Kelly or Linkin Park.
tbh
What? That’s not what his album sales indicate. And, most mainstream rappers cling to POP/R&B stars for mainstream success.
CROSSOVER mainstream success*****
True,he has more #1 albums than all except Beatles
Interestingly all his #1s have been courtesy of Mariah,Beyonce,Rihanna and Alicia Keys respectively.
Add Thotliyah in there too boo
