Chart Check: Drake Makes History As New Album With Future Hits #1 [Billboard 200]

Published: Wednesday 30th Sep 2015 by Rashad

Coming as a surprise to approximately no one, Canadian emcee Drake is still winning.  For once, however, he’s bringing someone else along for the ride – Future.

Indeed, as predicted here, the twosome’s surprise album ‘What a Time To Be Alive’ dashed the dreams of Lana Del Rey‘s tertiary release ‘Honeymoon’s bid for the top spot on this week’s Billboard 200.

And, while not exactly meeting the projected 500,000 first week sales listed by industry analysts last week, the set’s inaugural numbers gave them each their second chart-toppers of the year.

The set earned 375,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 24, according to Nielsen Music — of that sum, 334,000 were pure album sales.

Coming in at No. 2 on the new chart is Lana Del Rey’s Honeymoon, with 116,000 units (105,000 in pure album sales). It’s the fourth top 10 album for Del Rey, and follows her chart-topping Ultraviolence in 2014.

The albums come as two of 7 debuts in this week’s top 10 and follow reports Drake will see his name etched in history books for notching 100 hits on the Hot 100.  In fact, he is the youngest on the list of artists with triple digit entries on the tally.
