While Kelly Rowland has spent much of the year out of the spotlight following the birth of son Titan last November, the Grammy winning songstress hasn’t been inactive. Indeed, not only has she begun production on her hotly anticipated BET talent search ‘Chasing Destiny,’ she has also been working diligently on her fifth solo album.
In regard to the latter, many have been wondering which label will house the as yet untitled set, after Rowland bid adieu to former recording home Republic last year.
We’ve been doing our homework, and it appears Ms. Kelly may be heading to Roc Nation.
Details below…
In the early hours of this morning, the 34-year-old shared the snap below of herself and manager-husband Tim Weatherspoon in what she captioned “the golden office.”
Well, realizing that it looked familar, we’ve done some digging and recalled that Rihanna posted a shot of herself in the same room recently and confirmed it to be the Roc Nation office.
Naturally, this begs the question of whether Kelly is heading to the Roc. Without knowing the inner-workings of such a deal, on paper at least it feels like the surest of fits.
Beyond the obvious Jay-Z connection (which in itself should offer the singer a degree of commitment perhaps missing from past deals), Roc Nation are actively pushing their new label over at Universal.
Some may be scratching their heads asking; but haven’t they always been a label? In short, no. The Roc main’s operation was that of a mangement/A&R’ing juggernaut; with a recent expansion into a fully-fledged label under the Universal umbrella.
From where we’re standing, it’d be an awesome look for Kelly and arguably the stable with the best infrastructure to help her spring to the heights of success she deserves.
Stay tuned to see how this unfolds.
