Though not flying atop of the charts these days, T-Pain once dominated the Urban-Pop landscape with what seemed – at the time – like an endless list of hits.
As most will recall, it was his unique use of auto-tune that served as his main selling point.
It caught many off-guard, then, when the singer was tapped to perform the US National Anthem at the LA Dodgers game last night.
Interestingly, he ditched his vocal trademark and tackled the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ with a more traditional approach.
Wonder how he did? The answer awaits below — and you may be surprised.
Granted this was by no means a Whitney or Mariah, T turned in a commendable effort.
Some of the notes were strangled and strained, but Mr Pain still gets an A for effort. It’s not as if many male artists are brave enough to try their hand at the track. And even when they do, the results more often than not are shocking. Just ask Jamie Foxx.
Much better than Citranny!

Typical a*** navy member
Loved the uncomfortable golf claps at the beginning lol. He did his thing though.
That was interesting… Very, interesting. Decent Job, T Pain.
I KNOW HE COULD HIT NOTES.. WITH A LITTLE MORE VOCAL CONTROL AND HIS CREATIVITY HE COULD BRING BACK RNB
I agree
He definitely tried it. I’ll give him that.
There were a few flaws, but I’m impressed with his vocal power. I never thought he had any before. This makes me think more of him.
Surprised tf out of muah. Pretty good. Wat happened 2 him tho?
With some vocal training in pitch control, he could have a really great singing voice. It’s sad that he’s wasted his potential all this time.
T-pain could sing his ass off …if you listened to some of the tracks off his first two albums people would know just the auto-tune was just his signature thing
What kind of hocus pocus? All this time he could have been singing instead of releasing all that auto tune nonsense.
He had to stand out some type of way………..
Ahh he actually has a lovely voice. Whatever you think of his voice he sounds like he listened to a lot of quality singers growing up such as Luther etc. agreed he shouldn’t be complacent and should continue (or get) voice lessons and coaching but gosh he can indeed sang. I’d love to hear an Aloe Blacc style project from him
“Uh, he in love with a ghetto girl. He said he want(ed) peace like Meta World….he aint messing with them regulars. I’m a let him touch it if he playing with some inches…..miniskirt flow”
I stan so hardfor this song! Let it be her next single and first hot 100 #1. Might get a grammy nom too.
“Where they at gyal dem?”
“Granted this was by no means a Whitney or Mariah”
.
Umm, when have Mariah EVER did a great job on the NA? See, people love to put that name next to Whitney, as if they were equal vocally, but in fact MC only have like 4 “great” vocal performances and they were before Clinton was president.
She has MANY MANY concerts full of great vocal performances, sit down maggot.
This was really good. I would like to listen to a Luther Vandross-esque ballad from him without all of the heavy decibels of autotune and etc. I think it would a nice look for a comeback.
