Janet Jackson‘s long-awaited 11th studio album ‘Unbreakable’ danced onto shelves after a seven-year hiatus. In honor of the Queen’s return, we have singled out our top 5 songs from the icon’s new project.

1. ‘BURNITUP’ (feat. Missy Elliott)
Two legends come together on this track to create an undeniable club anthem. Janet provides a twist on the typical dance track by giving it a ‘back in the day’ groove while still keeping it authentic to today’s audience. Well done divas!
2. ‘Dammn Baby’
While a little hesitant to hear the track based on its title, we’re gladly reminded here to never judge a song by its name. Or spelling. For, this infectious cut surprised us in earnest. Imagine Chris Brown’s ‘Loyal’ laced with a sassy motivational message — with a side helping of old school.
If a remix were to be commissioned in the future, we foresee The Weeknd being a sure fit. The song would be a perfect match for ‘The Hills’ singer. In any case, remix or not, a single roll-out could easily help entice a younger demographic to the elusive Pop queen.
3. ‘The Great Forever’
If we did not know any better, we would’ve swore Michael Jackson himself blessed this track with his presence. Janet toys with her voice in a manner that channels her iconic big brother, while creating something fresh for her own discography. Irresistable.
4. ‘2 B Loved’
Boasting a sound that is reminiscent to the ‘All For You’ era, ‘2 B Loved’s funky production paired with Jackson’s sensual voice creates a passionate mid-tempo we can’t help but have on repeat. As Janet croons about needing love, we wilfully get lost in her sugar-sweet vocals.
5. ‘Unbreakable’
On the LP’s title track, Ms. Jackson belts about an unbreakable love and an unbreakable bond with her fans. Euphoric, anthemic, and uplifting, ‘Unbreakable’ serves as an illustrious intro to the record and sets the tone for what we feel is her strongest body of work in a over a decade.

In all honesty, I listened to the album and I like it. It’s better than her last few projects. I don’t think it’s AMAAAAAAAAAAZING but I most definitely can rock with it.! It’s cute. Side note, is TGJ being extra petty and shady by not posting anything on Tamar’s album as to distract from Janet’s when they literally post EVERYTHING ELSE about her? Seems pretty corny to me cause that album is wildly good.

I am LOVING this album. I think she really tried a different sound and didn’t do the regular routine in true Janet fashion by relying on interludes for this album and it worked. TBH I thought I was going to be bored because of her being more grown now but she gave me a FEEL that embellished well for this.

I feel the opposite. I feel like it works because it is more reminiscent of classic Janet. A lot of things I’ve heard in her music that gimme that feeling of nostalgia. I don’t think it’s a reinvention of sorts like she used to I just think the songs are good

@Pat her voice is deeper now so she can’t rely on her falsetto as much as she could back in the day. She has been using her chest voice a lot the last two albums, I like the songs here because she uses her falsetto more like she did back in the day. I don’t find her full chest voice to be particularly pretty. But her falsetto is beautiful

Using something that was there already, even if not as prevelant, is not reinvention. That isn’t the definition of what a reinvention is.
A slight tweak is just that. A tweak. A reinvention is a whole different issue which she has done many many times before from Janet to velvet too from control to rhythm nation.. From velvet rope to all for you Etc . just not from this era.

This album is a Phenomenal!!!!! 10/10 one of the best albums i’ve heard in my life< I'm in love with EVERY song but for now here is what i'm playing the most.
1. Broken Hearts Heal, (A Beautiful heartfelt tribute to MJ and all the great memories they shared) Fantastic!!!
2. Gon B Alright, REAL R&B, sounds like a modern day sly & The Family stone record where Janet slows her vocal down is some parts to sound like sly and she speeds her vocal up in some ad libs and sounds like a young MJ all duelling with Janet its remarkable
3.After You Fall. This song is THE classic Janet balled for this album, it broke my heart i cried…
4. Night. EPIC!!!!!! It takes you back to the roots of where house music started a mesmerising chorus just fantastic!!!
5. Dream Maker/Euphoria CLASSIC!!!! Reminds me of a modern day Got To Be There from MJ with a really positive message
The entire album is perfection to be honest!
“Dammn Baby” is a standout for me on first listen. I feel like the slower jams are more of a grower, but that’s typically the case with slow/mid tempo songs for me.

The album is so diverse which was something missing from her last few albums imo. From reading the post it seems everyone seems loves different songs for different reasons. That’s one of the things I love most about this one. I think it channels Rhythm Nation both thematically and musically that way. LOVE IT.
So far I love the album. Faves are:

The rest are ok, there’s a disconnection with the writing, her voice and the beat, all three are rarely on point, but her voice is very mature now and you hear MJ a LOT in songs. Oh the “break it down, break it down, break it down” was the best flashback Friday of my life!

She did it in the breakdown in All For You, the begining of FeedBack (Gimme a beat!) and someone on here pointed out that the beginning of BURNINGUP! is sample of an unreleased song from RN. It’s crazy how the universe works, the music bizz blackballed Janet, media wouldn’t support her. Now she’s inde and the whole industry is dead. Here’s Janet still standing while her puppet peers are thrown away, still bringing to labels and the days of yesterday like crazy. They couldn’t break this woman and she’s still here over 30 years later. She’s truly is Unbreakable.
Not only that but now Janet paying them dust and not allowing them to do ANYTHING for her. She cancelled her iheart appearance for the radio execs and is even restricting the media from covering her tour. When she went independent she MEANT it YES!

“Unbreakable” is undeniable. No matter the chart position, she produced a beautiful, moving, fun, cohesive work of art. THIS is how it’s done folks.

Ok, first listen i was like hmmm i’m not sure, second listen ok not bad, third listen i got it. Love lesson Learned, The great forever, the 3 singles are for me some of the strongest tracks on the album (No Sleeep, Unbreakable and BURNITUP!) but my favorite and as mentioned in the article 2 B Loved – this song right here puts a smile on my face 🙂
There’s a few standout tracks, like Dammn Baby, Shoulda Known Better and No Sleep. But overall the songs sound too much alike, there’s no real variety in the vocal delivery or production. The album is like one long song. It’s TOO cohesive, it gets boring. I would’ve liked for Janet to experiment with other genres a bit more. But it gets a 7/10 score from me. An okay album but far from great.
It’s truly an amazing album: start – finish!!!!!
