Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features, ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay,’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature, Chart Rewind (a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay), accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we tip our hats to ‘Exhale (Shoop Shoop),’ the 11th and last Hot 100 chart-topper of music’s premier diva Whitney Houston.

Lifted from the ‘Waiting To Exhale’ soundtrack (which celebrated its 20th anniversary this month), the tune delivered Whit’s first ever #1 debut on the tally – a feat added to her already impressively decorated Hot 100 resume. Knocking then “rival” Mariah Carey down to #2, ‘Shoop’ may have known brief tenure at the top (as Carey returned to #1 the week after with her record-breaking hit ‘One Sweet Day’), but it still made its mark on record books for having the longest run at #2 in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

Tuck in below and tell us your fave song from the top 25 of Billboard’s Hot 100 this week in 1995…

This generation has it so bad.! I feel so sorry that they can only experience true musical slayage via YouTube.

Do y’all think in 10-20 years the girls will be rewinding to the 2015 charts, yearning for the musical glory days??? Lol

I love these Retro rewind posts, it shows how diverse the billborad charts were. I still play “Gangsta’s Paradise” and Selena’s “Dreaming of You” is one of the most beautiful songs ever.

Epic top 15. The diversity and quality wow! Especially the top 2 of course 🙂
The Whitney Houston song is exquisite and one of my faves from her.
And Mariah… Woahh after spending 8 weeks at the top with Fantasy, she was dethroned by Whitney for one week, and just the next week she debuted at #1 again with One Sweet Day… and for 16 weeks!!! LOL She was #1 for like half a year in that list, and when there was actual competition from other titans (not like the lack of competetion Adele, the only huge one, has now). Absolutely epic, and slaying vocally and musically while doing so, and killing it in album sales too of course. Once again: only Adele has done it since the late 90s when Celine was pretty much the last one to do this type of thing.
