Yesterday delivered the nominations for the forthcoming Grammy Awards which, much to the delight of its committee, was well-received.

Today, details have emerged about the nominations process. Specifically, in the Urban Contemporary and R&B categories.

Read below….

The committee’s  Vice President Bill Freimuth bared all in a recent interview with ‘Billboard.’

Peep an excerpt from their conversation below:

The Urban Contemporary category really took a lot of us by surprise: Last year it was Beyonce and Chris Brown, and this year was The Internet and Kehlani and Lianne La Havas in addition to Miguel and The Weeknd. Was there a change in the description of that category?

No, there wasn’t. We’ve had the same definition for the last several years for that category. What the category was created to address originally was music that really, at its heart, R&B, but incorporating a lot of elements from hip-hop and electronic dance music and pop and more contemporary, forward-thinking production techniques, so it’s not an easy category to get screened into. A lot of the albums that are initially entered in that category end up getting moved to R&B if they don’t really have that kind of progressive vibe and blending of other genres in there, so the people who do our screening — there are different people every year — may have had something to do with it. We’ve also been doing quite a bit of outreach as an academy with the R&B music community. I don’t have any stats for you on that, but I would like to think that we’ve gotten quite a few more of the most prolific and relevant members of that [genre] to be members of the academy. While they’re tough to track and they might appear subtle, I do think that they play out in the nominations.

His explanation came after fans of the entertainer Ciara questioned the committee’s decision not to support her single ‘I Bet’, the only number from R&B female singer to score a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America this year.

The fact that FourFiveSeconds wasn’t nominated, I can’t what a joke yet a Petty-Diss track was

  2. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans December 8, 2015

Snubbing, snubbing, snubbing I her and not giving a damn when she’s proven herself countless times by having the ONLY certified R&B singles TWICE from consecutive eras. Why is it so hard for them to just put their feet and down and say, “Let’s stop acting like this girl doesn’t exist. We NEED to nominate her now. We can’t pretend anymore now that her singles are doing the best out of any other R&B artist.” Her time will have to come soon because I can’t keep putting up with this foolishness.

    Hahahahahah!!!!!

  4. iLoveMusic December 8, 2015

Ciara really deserved that nomination. Like I said before, the Grammys & Billboard is the reason why the music industry is slowly dying.

    • MUSICHEAD December 8, 2015

The reason Ciara has not been nominated is because although her tracks are hot, her vocal performances are never as strong as those actually nominated. The academy voters look for strong vocal showings when voting for Grammy performance categories. Ciara just doesn’t deliver in that area like Tamar, Tyrese, Jill or even The Weekend.

    IMO…

45S should have been nominated for:

    Record of the Year.
    Song of the Year.
    Best Pop Collaboration.
    Best Pop Song.

    BBHMM:

    Best long-form music video.

    Beyonce – 7/11:

Best Dance Recording and Best short-form music video.

    Feeling Myself:

    Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

    Jackie:

    Best Urban Contemporary Album.

Beyoncé is gearing up for the next era and not losing sleep over a feature or rerelease add on single. Her last project had 5 Grammy nominations and she won 3 of them. She has 20 total, she is good.

      • Jamie December 8, 2015

Adele already has Grammys 2017 on lock. Sorry

      • HailBeysus December 8, 2015

Her last project received 6 grammy nominations i thought?

    • Anne December 8, 2015

I said the next era, not the next Grammys. I don’t even know if Beyoncé will release in time for 2017. Either way she has won at least one Grammy for every project so far and I doubt that even Adele can change that trend. Whether it’s 2017 or later, she’ll be back. Until then she is not pressed, she can dust off her 20.

*Cue the scene from Why don’t you love me lol

      • king December 8, 2015

        i don’t think she got a grammy from 4

    • Anne December 8, 2015

She got two nominations for ‘4’ and won for ‘Love on Top.’

  6. Theman December 8, 2015

45S should have definitely been nominated!

  7. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans December 8, 2015

I need Ci to start ranting. She’s too damn nice and that’s why everyone keeps taking advantage of her and ignoring her. Show these people that you need to be nominated and voice your concerns. Don’t just stay quiet and try to ignore it when your fans are going crazy for them snubbing you again. I don’t know. Maybe her paying the Grammy’s dust too is what’s got them so pressed at her.

  8. S****** Blonde December 8, 2015

If the Grammys want to be respected again, they should never give another Grammy to Beyoncé, that’s all 😀

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans December 8, 2015

      What about Taylor?

      • S****** Blonde December 8, 2015

Taylo and all of the others basic girls too 😀

    • Tyler Makiavelli December 8, 2015

You’re just mad because a black woman is the most awarded female in Grammy HISTORY.

    • coolness December 8, 2015

Hey Suicude Blonde, your White supremacist is showing. You can stay mad.

    • Mad cause I’m so fresh December 8, 2015

But the noms are still s*****…

    • king December 8, 2015

when single ladies won song of the year I knew the grammys would no longer be a show i could support

    • What now December 8, 2015

      KIIII 4 days

  9. Duffster December 8, 2015

Seems to me that S****** Blonde is a hater. Wait till B6 will pick up all major awards, she got 20 already and theres more coming.

  10. S****** Blonde December 8, 2015

So you’re a white supremacist if you think that Beyoncé is just as basic as Taylor Switf?……She has a good voice and is a great performer but it all ends there, she has no talent for music, key word, MUSIC.

    • Tyler Makiavelli December 8, 2015

How can you be a vocalist and not have a talent in music? They go hand in hand because vocals are a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT. A good vocalist has good music inclination. So that s*** sounds stupid.

  11. Kehlani’s Fav December 8, 2015

GO GET YOUR GRAMMY FOR YOUR MIXTAPE KEHLANI!!! WERK!!!!
NONE OF THE OTHER H*** THESE STANS ARE PRESSED OVER HERE ON TGJ HAVE EVER DONE SOMETHING REMOTELY CLOSE. TSUNAMI MOB/STAR

  12. credits December 8, 2015

Jazmine Sullivan is nominated for 3 and I am happy!

  13. Slay_Hive December 8, 2015

“Beyoncé is just as basic as Taylor Switf?……She has a good voice and is a great performer but it all ends there, she has no talent for music, key word, MUSIC.”
    .
Taylor is not a good performer and she is no vocalist. How tf is Beyonce as basic as her?? Makes no sense dumb blonde. Lmaoo Beyonce isn’t even nominated and biitches are still mad. Smh

    • Danny Bey December 8, 2015

That’s how you know the hate for Beyoncé is ridiculous and holds no merit. How TF are people still mad at and hating on Beyoncé when she’s not even nominated this year? Closet ass stans.

  14. Danny Bey December 8, 2015

I Bet should have definitely been nominated along with Feeling Myself for Rap Collab, but Jazmine is Nokia Ted 3x, so I’m throughly content with that.

  15. Danny Bey December 8, 2015

    *nominated

  16. Career Ender December 8, 2015

I don’t know why this Brooklyne streets reject dumb blonde is comparimg Queen Bey to Basic Swift ???
    .
yo favourite Dinosaur still got snubbed and all your faves aren’t getting no love from the Ggrammys

  17. RihYonce December 8, 2015

Damn the Grammies, Ciara deserved her nom, J Coke deserved more noms. It’s no secret the industry is full of s*** , buy hopefully there will be some great performers or otherwise I won’t be watching this trash.

  18. MsYonce December 8, 2015

Fifty Shades Of Grey soundtrack got a nomination so technically Beyonce could get a Grammy next year. For the slow ones let me break it down. See Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media award goes to the artist(s)/producer(s) with he majority of tracks on soundtrack. Beyonce is credited as a producer on both of her tracks. So Beyonce,The Weeknd and Danny Elfman would get an award if the soundtrack wins ( all have 2 songs on the album)

  19. Slay_Hive December 8, 2015

Also I’m sick of this trifling ass McDonalds ad!! S*** is annoying AF. That’s why y’all can only get thirty comments now. Bye

    • MsYonce December 8, 2015

      Lmaoo ikr its really annoying

  20. DIABETES UNBOTHERED December 8, 2015

Doesnt matter. Bey never at any point in her career had trouble winning ANY award or atleast getting a nom. (Unlike rihyawnna). Even DC3/4 used steal awards from TLC left and right. Flashack to win HALO beat Chasing pavements for best pop vocal… poor Adele.

  21. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans December 8, 2015

Everyone, make sure to RUN to your theaters to see Mariah’s “#1 to Infinity” concert movie on February 20. Let’s support the legend songbird and show her how much we still appreciate and love her.

  22. DIABETES UNBOTHERED December 8, 2015

“4”5S should have been nominated for: Record of the Year. Song of the Year. Best Pop Collaboration. Best Pop Song.”- NOBODY

  23. Shonyonce Minaj December 8, 2015

Ariana Grande, Big Sean, Azealia Banks, Fifth Harmony, & Tinashe where all snubbed.

  24. @JanetCIARA_ December 8, 2015

Who gives a F**** at this point, The Grammys need to die out….So over the entire hooplah of the ceremo0ny

  25. thando December 9, 2015

Beyonce is great but she definitely doesn’t deserve any grammy award for songwriting. Laughable that she’s most awarded female when you think of the slew of way more. But the grammys lost lost their credibility long ago anyway.
