Oh Usher.
Rihanna may be catching the most flack for a messy album roll-out, but she certainly isn’t the only one.
The ‘OMG’ singer has left fans screaming exactly that after scrapping his ‘UR’ album last year.
Preceded by a slew of singles, including ‘Good Kisser’ and ‘She Came To Give It To You,’ the set’s release was dashed into disarray when neither song caught on commercially.
Oddly, even when he did stumble on a hit in the form of ‘I Don’t Mind’ (which almost made top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100), the 37-year-old didn’t use it as a springboard to release a body of work. Instead, he hit the road and has been recording.
Formal updates have been scarce. However, during a visit to the Ellen show this week, Mr Raymond was squarely asked about the status of the project. He replied that it’s “buffering” and will arrive shortly.
Check out the interview, in which he spills on his recent marriage, below…
Though somewhat non-descript, it’s cool to finally have some clarity.
Updates aside, we’re hoping the music itself hits the mark. ‘Kisser’ and co were cool, especially from a production standpoint (the funky throwback vibe is a smart means of courting his Urban base back). However, at this stage in the game, it’ll be great to see Usher singing about something of substance rather than lyrics that his industry “sons” (see: Trey Songz and co) could be singing.
He has the benefit of age and experience, as such it’d be awesome to see him get his grown and sexy on.
And for the love of all things good, come back with better choreography or a new choreographer. Or both. It’s been incredibly grating seeing someone so talented doing moves and formations that should have been left in the early 00’s.
Having smartly laid low of late, there’s a real opportunity for Ush to make a real statement this go round. Fingers crossed he comes through with the goods.
