Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll rewind to the third #1 hit of R&B vet Usher‘s career – ‘U Got It Bad.’ The second single lifted from his ‘8701’ album, the tune’s ascension to the summit of the Hot 100 marked the first time in his career he nabbed consecutive #1 hits (both from one album). Skyrocketing to the top of the tally in late 2001, the song was briefly toppled by rockers Nickelback before resuming its grip on the position for 5 consecutive weeks (6 weeks overall).

A lasting fan favorite of Ush’s, the tune’s accompanying video – featuring then-girlfriend Chilli (of TLC) – is remembered most for its famous rain dance sequence (impressive choreography the crooner has recreated on stage time and time again).  Tuck in below to relive ‘Bad’ and see which of its chart co-tenants you remember most from this week in 2002:

The Justin Beiber thing in 2016 is pathetic. I´m sorry but the current list is one of the worst one could ever find in Billboard´s history.

Yes fr. I’m glad Adele at least there.

L.A. Reid sure knows how to pick em’! Usher and Bieber on top…and Usher needs to go back to being the boy next door with attitude….smooth, suave, confident…when Usher gets hot, nobody sells albums like Usher…not Chris, Bieber, Bruno, Timberlake, Ne-Yo…NOPE…and ZAYN is even reminding me of Usher! Pillowtalk sounds like vintage Usher…Weeknd’s Tell Your Friends sounds like vintage Usher…Usher, stop playing and get them Diamond sales boo boo 🙂

Legendary, this was a period of transition for Usher but it had a couple false starts before he got the whole project together but he didn’t use pre-paid album sales to get what would be come a multi-platinum album. This is how you listen to your audience and go back to the drawing board after having luke-warm receptions to a single he got the look together, the sound right and the marketing plan intact and exploded to make his next release a monster seller. On topic its crazy who eclectic the top ten used to be compared to now. Its like they only count spins from pop radio and nothing else and since most r&b songs don’t get sent to pop stations how can they ever chart or be heard at least once by bigger audiences, because some areas dont have a hip-hop/r&b station.

  6. What now February 5, 2016

One day Usher will return to music (I’m trying to talk it into existence).

You cropped the top 10 just to cut out Rihanna. I’m done with this site.

    • FC/JC February 5, 2016

      Nice knowing you….. Bye!
      Dont come back.
Go find a site where they praise the Thot you stand for consistently…. Its not hard to accept the fact that not everyone is gonna be here for your fave all the time. Once you realize that you’ll stop being so pressedT.
Or actually get on rihannas payroll or STFU and stop complaining.

Whenever wherever, fav song from Shakira!

  9. Coolness February 5, 2016

I wasn’t such a big fan of this song initially but over time, I’ve come to really appreciate it. Even though it shockingly never got the accolades ‘U Remind Me’ and ‘U Don’t Have to Call’ got (consecutive Grammy Awards for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance), this is certifiable classic and I love how he sings it live these days.
