If there’s anything more watched than the Super Bowl it’s its ratings.
Moments ago, it was revealed that last night’s match commanded a huge audience yet not as sizeable as last year.
So how did the both the big game and Coldplay led Halftime Show fare?

Per Nielsen, the match – which aired on CBS – was watched 111.9 million viewers. Though impressive (and the second-highest mark ever for a Super Bowl), it didn’t best the 2015 game which pulled in 114.1 million people.
The Pepsi Halftime spectacle, which co-starred guests Beyonce and Bruno Mars, was the broadcast’s peak. It aired during the 8:30-9pm block and was watched by 115.5 million viewers.
A gargantuan number, no doubt, but not enough to top the 118.5 million who tuned in to Katy Perry and Missy Elliott‘s showing last year.

Granted this is being billed as a “victory” for Perry supporters, who trended her name on Twitter after last night’s performance, context is everything.
If the game is being watched by slightly less people, it’s almost a given that said trend will carry over into the Halftime.
Still, amazing numbers all-round. And judging by the boost to Coldplay’s sales and the pandemonium surrounding Beyonce’s ‘Formation Tour,’ it’s a definitive win.
